Year 10 Unit/Topic Activities Recorder & Guitar Course 1. Music all Around us. We explore many aspects of music………how much it is a part of our lives, why it is used in certain ways, think a little more about all the different types of music…and their role, impact and effect. We investigate Music and Mood Music and Image including the role of music in film and advertising. Listening and discussing: To a broad range of styles and genres, their purposes, uses, effects caused by musical elements. Comparing and experimenting with music as an accompaniment to image. Performing and comparing music using different moods and musical expression including major and minor among other key elements. Composing music to a given brief of mood, occasion or image and using the appropriate elements to achieve this. You continue to expand your recorder repertoire and note range learning pieces that utilize the range of the recorder up to High A. Pieces: Musette. Twinkle, Twinkle transformed. Scales: Include D Major, E Minor, G Major. 2. Winter Assessment s and Christmas Activities We begin a course in Guitar using a Year 10 booklet which you will receive. You will be expected to practice your chords and progressions as set for homework. You will do some homework research using ICT. We listen to a variety of pieces and identify and compare musical features of these genres in both modern and older contexts. We perform music in theses styles as groups and individuals. We learn how to apply basic improvisation techniques to ‘jazz’ up and transform music. We perform the 12 bar blues in ensembles. The Eras of Music 5. Summer Assessments and end of year activities. Music Now! Using a Year 10 booklet supplied and specific websites we investigate key composers, their backgrounds and music from the 3 of the main eras of music history - Baroque, Classical and Romantic. You will also have a listening paper covering the topics studied this year with aural and theory based questions.
