Naviance
Please request transcripts and recommendations at least two weeks prior to application
deadlines for colleges and scholarships.
Have you been accepted to college? If so, please indicate that in Naviance by going to the
section “colleges I’m applying to” and editing that specific college (click the pencil next to
that college), and choosing accepted in the drop down box next to “Result”, then clicking
“Update Applications” at the bottom of the screen. We would also like to know if you have
been deferred, so please indicate that as well.
Have you been awarded any scholarships? Please provide a copy of the award letters to
Guidance so we can include you in our scholarship total.
Financial Aid
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now available at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Completing the FAFSA is required to apply for federal student
aid, such as federal grants, loans, and work-study. The FAFSA is also used to apply for most
state and college aid, in addition to some private financial aid.

JOB/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
CHKD Junior Volunteer Program: Applications will be available beginning March 1 and can be downloaded
on www.chkd.org. Sessions start as early as June 24 and go until August 16.
Summer Jobs for Students at Kaleidoscope Camp (a ministry of Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center):
Camps start as soon as June 10 and go until August 7. Application deadline is May 30. Go to www.wcrc.info

SCHOLARSHIPS:
(NEW) The Jenni Prevette Memorial Scholarship established by the NCS Class of 1991
Who Should Apply? Any Norfolk Christian senior who demonstrates excellence in Christian
character and academics, and extensive participation in the fine arts. Applicants should
display the following: minimum GPA of 3.0, active participation in fine arts, strong leadership
qualities, strong Christian character, and a commitment to study at a four-year college.
How? Applications are available in the Guidance office.
When? Completed applications are due by April 19, 2013.
(NEW) The Cathy H. Turner Memorial Scholarship (Choral Director for NCS from 1996-2008)
Who Should Apply? Any Norfolk Christian senior who possesses a desire to pursue higher
education emphasizing music and the choral arts.
How? Applications are available in the Guidance office.
When? Completed applications are due by April 19, 2013.
(NEW) Norfolk Sports Club
Who Should Apply? student must have lettered in at least one sport, must graduate with at
least a C average or better, financial need must be demonstrated, must attend a college or
university in Virginia
How? Applications are available at www.norfolksportsclub.com, select 2013 student letter
and scholarship application (must include: pages one and two of parents’ 2012 income tax
return and copies of transcript, and letter of recommendation)
When? Applications must be received by the foundation no later than Monday, April 15, 2013.
(NEW) Chartway Scholarships
Who Should Apply? Open to all Chartway members who are graduating seniors
How? For your convenience, applications can be accepted online at

AES Engineering Scholarship
Who Should Apply? Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by
the essays that are submitted; Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide
spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students
attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering
courses to be eligible.
How? Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the
following question: Reflecting on your personal experiences and/or circumstances, tell us something
about yourself that distinguishes you as a potential scholarship candidate. Submit essay to:

Who Should Apply? Seniors (not based on GPA or financial need)

The Virginia Council on Women, in collaboration with the Science Museum of Virginia is pleased
to announce the 2nd annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Essay Contest
Who Should Apply? Senior girls who will be pursuing a STEM career in college and have at
least a 2.5 GPA
How? Entrants should follow guidelines available online at:
http://www.commonwealth.virginia.gov/Women/index.cfm.
When? Entries must be submitted to women@governor.virginia.gov by 5:00pm on March 1,
2013 to be considered. The winning essays will be selected by a panel of judges who hold a
degree in or work in STEM fields. Winners will be notified by April 15, 2013.
