Half-Court Rounding Subject: Mathematics Grade Level: 4-5 Objective: The Half-Court Rounding game will help students practice the skills of rounding. Students will be able to demonstrate rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and tenth. Students will also be able to correctly identify rounded numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and tenth. Game: Half-court Rounding is a game in which students try to score as many points as possible by rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, or tenth. This is a perfect game across grade-levels, because students can choose to shoot free-throws (1 point - round to the nearest ten) jump shots (2 points - round to the nearest hundred) and three-pointers (round to the nearest tenth). Users can try any kind of shot within the game and have 90 seconds to score as many as points as possible and beat their opponent. If they answer incorrectly, the student misses the shot. Students can also choose a two-player game where they can play a friend or classmate. Common Core Standards: 4.NBT.3 Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place. 5.NBT.4 Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.
