Quotient Crack-Up!
N
ow that you’ve learned how to estimate products, you’re
ready to move on to estimating quotients. A quotient is the
answer to a division problem. Estimate quotients below to
find the punch line to our joke. In our estimation, it’s very funny!
Estimating Quotients
4 Round each number to its
greatest place value.
4 After you round, divide the
rounded amounts in your head.
Example: What is 423 ÷ 49?
Round: 423 ➔ 400
49 ➔ 50
What to Do
4 In each problem, use rounding to
estimate the quotient.
4 Write the word that is next to the correct
answer in the blank above the letter of the
problem. When all the blanks are filled,
you’ll get the answer to our joke!
HINT: Before you divide,
cross out any zeroes at the
right of the divisor. Cross out
that same number of zeroes
in the dividend.
