Mixed and improper fractions
To change an improper fraction to whole, or mixed numbers, we can divide the
numerator by the denominator. That will tell us how many whole numbers we can
make up. If there are any remainders, they will be the fractions that are left over:
Convert the following improper fractions into whole, or mixed numbers:
1) 12/6 = 2
6) 37/10 =
2) 13/6 =
7) 49/8 =
3) 27/5 =
8) 56/8 =
4) 28/5 =
9) 45/2 =
5) 23/10 =
10) 23/3 =
Convert the following mixed numbers to improper fractions. If it helps you, remember to
multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to calculate the new top
heavy numerator the denominator stays the same.
26) 6 1/8 = 57/8
22) 5 2/5
27) 22 1/2
23) 5 3/5
