Simplifying Proper Fractions and Improper Fractions:
How To:
To simplify proper and improper fractions follow these two steps:
1) Identify the largest number that divides both the numerator and
denominator (called the Greatest Common Factor or GCF).
2) Divide both the numerator and denominator by this number to arrive at
your final simplified fraction
Note: If you cannot determine a GCF, repeatedly divide the numerator and denominator by
two. When that is no longer possible, check that the numerator and denominator are not
divisible by three, and if not then you are done!
