The numerator is the top number in a fraction.
The denominator is the bottom number in a fraction.
Fractions usually have a numerator that is smaller than the denominator.
When the numerator is larger than the denominator, the fraction is called
an IMPROPER FRACTION.
5. In the fraction 3/4, you can think of it as three out of four pieces. This is less
than one whole.
6. In the fraction 4/3, you can think of it as four out of three pieces. This is more
than one whole.
7. Normally you should not leave fractions in the improper form. Instead, you
should change them into MIXED NUMBERS. For example, 4/3 should be changed
into 1 1/3.

You do not have to use pictures.
When given an improper fraction, you can turn it into a mixed number by counting
the number of times you can subtract the entire denominator out of the numerator.
This is the whole number part of the mixed number. The leftover remainder is the
fraction part of the mixed number.
