th 7 Grade CCSS Math Lesson Plans Week of September 21-25 Objectives: CCSS.7.NS.A. 2A: Understand that multiplication is extended from fractions to rational numbers by requiring that operations continue to satisfy the properties of operations, particularly the distributive property, leading to products such as (-1)(-1) = 1 and the rules for multiplying signed numbers. Interpret products of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts. CCSS.7.NS.A. 2B: Understand that integers can be divided, provided that the divisor is not zero, and every quotient of integers (with non-zero divisor) is a rational number. If p and q are integers, then -( p / q ) = (- p )/ q = p /(- q ). Interpret quotients of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts. CCSS.7.NS.A.2.C : Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide rational numbers. Mathematical Practices: 1. Make sense of problems and preserve in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 4. Model with mathematics. Essential Question: What context clues tells us whether we should multiply or divide rational numbers? Weekly Homework Assignment: Review: Multiply and divide integers. Monday 9/21/15 Focus Question : How can i-Ready help you achieve success in the classroom? Bellwork: Prepare for iReady. Lesson: i-Ready Resources: Laptops, iready.com Tuesday 9/22/15 Focus Question : Why do the rules for multiplying and dividing fractions also apply when multiplying and dividing decimals? Bellwork: Students will answer a word problem involving operations with rational numbers. Lesson: ● TTW review the essential question, focus question, and rational numbers. ● TSW work independently on multiplying and dividing decimals. Resources: 1. Practice problems 2. Interactive Notebooks 3. Place Value Chart Closure: Exit Ticket--TSW answer the focus question Wednesday 9/23/15 Focus Question : What context clues tells us whether we should multiply or divide rational numbers? Bellwork: Students will answer a word problem involving operations with rational numbers. Lesson: ● TTW review the steps for multiplying and dividing decimals ● TSW work in collaborative groups (Think, Pair, Share) to complete word problems involving operations with rational numbers. Resources: 1. Common Core Ready Book pg. 52-53 Closure: Exit Quiz (4 multiple choice questions). Given 4 word problems tell whether we should multiply or divide. Thursday 9/24/15 Focus Question : What context clues tells us whether we should multiply or divide rational numbers? Bellwork: Students will answer a word problem involving operations with rational numbers. Lesson: ● TSW examine various word problems and tell whether one should multiply or divide. ● TSW work in collaborative groups to complete word problems involving operations with rational numbers. Resources: 1. Problem Solving Practice Worksheet: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Decimals. 2. Crosswalk Coach Lesson Practice, p. 46-47 Closure: Exit Quiz (4 multiple choice questions).
