Dear Parent or Guardian:
Your child is currently learning to identify odd and even numbers.
Here is your chance to help your child practice this important skill.
In this PAL Packet you will find a short activity for you and your
child to do. Please do the activity and The Back Page this evening.
Then sign your name on The Back Page and have your child return it
tomorrow.
Remember, parents are a child’s first teacher. Thank you for your
time and energy in making learning fun and exciting for your child.
Sincerely,

ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS
Parent Pointer —
We use odd and even numbers all the time, such as when counting
money and when adding multiple items in a store. This is a basic skill
that is used in daily life as well as in your child’s school years. Being
able to analyze numbers based on their being odd or even is something
your child will use in the following years, such as when deciding if a
number is divisible by a certain digit and when finding a pattern in a set
of numbers.
Math in the Home, on the Go, and for the Fun of It —
DIRECTIONS: Read through the Is It Odd or Even? reference sheet
with your parent or guardian. Add two more odd numbers to the circle
and two more even numbers to the triangle. Then have fun with the
board game 100 Wins! For an extra challenge, if you or your parent or
guardian moves to the wrong space, that person needs to move back 3
spaces!
Talk about It —
After you have finished the activity, turn to The Back Page to show
what you know.
Now go have some fun with the activity! (

Is It Odd or Even?
Odd Numbers
These are odd numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
Even Numbers
These are even numbers: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
You can tell if a number is even or odd
by looking at the digit in the one’s column.
If the digit in that column is odd, the number is odd.
If the digit in that column is even, the number is even.
These numbers are odd.

Now it’s your turn.
*
Continue taking turns.

Talk about It
Parent —

9How do you know if a number is odd or even?
9What are some odd numbers?
9What are some even numbers?
Student —
Answer the above questions in complete sentences on the
reverse side of this page.
OR
Do one of the following activities on the reverse side of
this page:
9Cut out 2 even digits and 2 odd digits from a
magazine. Place these digits in different orders,
making even and odd numbers. Write the numbers you
made with the word ODD or EVEN underneath each
number made.
9Make two large circles. On the top of the first one,
write ODD, and on the top of the second one, write
EVEN. Have your parent or guardian call out numbers
to you. You need to write the numbers in the correct
circle. Try to go faster and faster!
