Melissa’s Multiplication Match-Up
(A Multiplication Matching Game for Math Levels 3-5)
Materials: 4 sets of 10 cards (40 total).
Set-Up: Deal 5 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards
face down (draw pile). Player to the left of the dealer goes first.
Playing the game (Similar to “Go Fish”)
The first player can do one of 3 things: 1)Lay down a match (2
cards), (2) take a card from the draw pile, or (3) ask one of the
other players for a specific card (for example, “Heidi, do you have
a ‘13’?”) IF the player has the card, they must give it to the player
who asked for it. IF the player doesn’t have the requested card, the
player must take a card from the draw pile. IF the player has a
match, the pair can be placed down with cards facing up. Only one
match can be placed down each turn.
Winning the Game: The game ends when the first person runs
out of cards. When the game ends, the player with the most pairs
of matching cards wins!
Variations: There are 7 different decks of 40 cards: Factors of 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Beginners can play with easier factors such as 3
or 5. Advanced players can use more difficult factors such as 6, 7,
or 8.
