ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS To gain credit for unit standard 26552 (version 3) you are required to complete the attached test paper in order to demonstrate your knowledge of common first aid conditions. Your assessor may ask you some questions after you have completed the test in order to assess your understanding of what you have written. © NZQA March 2012 26552 v 3 assessment guide Page 2 of 9 Explanatory notes from unit standard 26552. 1 This unit standard together with unit standard 26551, Provide first aid for life threatening conditions, meets the minimum standards requirement for a workplace first aider. Programmes designed to meet the minimum requirements for persons to be certified as first aiders in the workplace will also need to meet Department of Labour guidelines. Authoritative New Zealand first aid text books are credible published materials, with a reliable publication process, by authors generally regarded as trustworthy or authoritative in first aid as it applies in New Zealand. A further reference for this standard is First Aid for Workplaces – A Good Practice Guide, Department of Labour, Wellington, 2009. 6 Primary reference is any text meeting the requirements specified in explanatory note 5. For each first aid condition in the range 1 response must be given to. For anaphylaxis the need for the first aider to refer to an emergency response plan for at risk children must also be given. For each first aid condition in the range an example of when you should seek help must be given. For each injury a minimum of 2 relevant pieces of first aid equipment must be given and these must match those found in the Department of Labour’s First Aid for Workplaces – A Good Practice Guide.
