Course Topics: The Formal Elements of Art and The Principles of
Design as applied to works on paper.
Course Description: Introductory Course which explores the basic techniques of drawing using a variety of media. Appreciation and study of major artists.
Types of Instruction: Lecture, Demonstration, textbook readings, gallery visits, slide examples of student and professional artists works.
Evaluation Devices: Instructor Critique, Class Critique, Self

Attendance Policy: You will be allowed ONE UNEXCUSED absence.
I may excuse absences for personal or family illness. It is the student’s responsibility to report to the instructor the reason for every absence. Attendance is worth 30% of the grade. Every unexcited absence lowers your attendance grade by 1%.
Homework Policy: Homework consists of textbook readings and completion of any project not finished during class. Evidence of text reading will be evaluated by class discussions.
Grading Policy: Attendance and Participation are worth 30% of the grade;
The Midterm Critique and Portfolio are worth 30%; The Final Critique and Portfolio are worth 40%
