People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: ironsand deposits; ironsand mining and processing equipment; ironsand mining processes; and the measurement of performance of ironsand mining. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of ironsand deposits. Evidence requirements 1.1 The distribution, structure, and mineralogy of ironsand deposits are described in terms of company documentation. Range 1.2 ironsand deposits include but are not limited to – Waikato North Head, Taharoa. The main interest of groups are identified and described in terms of the relationships between them. Evidence requirements 2.1 The types and characteristics of ironsand mining, processing, and transportation equipment are described in terms of its function, operation, and application. 2.2 Service support systems are explained in terms of the function and interrelationship with each other. Range 2.3 service support systems include but are not limited to – water, control, data capture, electrical. Safe operating practices associated with ironsand mining are described in terms of company documentation. Range safe operating practices include but are not limited to – ground stability, high pressure systems, mining regulations. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of ironsand mining processes. Evidence requirements 3.1 The characteristics of, and the inter-relationship between, process stages are described. Range 3.2 The nature and application of process additives utilised in ironsand mining and processing are described in terms of company documentation. Range 3.3 process stages include but are not limited to – extraction, concentration, transport. additives include but are not limited to – flocculants. The environmental considerations for ironsand mining are explained in terms of company documentation. Range environmental considerations include but are not limited to – discharges(air, noise, water, tailings), land rehabilitation. Outcome 4 Demonstrate knowledge of the measurement of performance of ironsand mining.
