Chamber Southwest Drives Issues to Baton Rouge
Who: Chamber SWLA membership along with this year’s Leadership Southwest Class, and 100
Black Men Youth Leaderhsip Group and Family & Youth’s Leadership Center for Youth
Where: Baton Rouge, LA
When: On April 3, 2012, buses depart from the Civic Center (Youth Groups) and L’Auberge
Casino Resort (Chamber Membership and Leadership Southwest) at 9am. After a full day of
meetings and the Southwest Louisiana Shrimp Boil, the buses will return around 9:30pm.
What: The Chamber SWLA will travel to Baton Rouge for our Annual Chamber SWLA Day at
the Louisiana Legislature. Participants will be shuttled from Lake Charles to our state capitol for
a day of meetings with legislators and policy makers and to observe the House and Senate in
action. After a day of meetings, Chamber SWLA members will join other Southwest Louisiana
leaders and legislators at the Southwest Louisiana Shrimp Boil held on the grounds of the
Governor’s Mansion.

“The Chamber SWLA Day at the Louisiana Legislature is a forum for our members to meet with
legislative representatives and key administrative policy makers in Baton Rouge. This trip is a
means for the business community of Southwest Louisiana to share its agenda with our
government regarding major issues such as higher education reform, taxes, and economic
development,” said Chamber SWLA President/ CEO George Swift.
For $75 per person, the Chamber SWLA will provide transportation, information on our
Louisiana Legislature, lunch, admission to the Shrimp Boil and the opportunity to meet with the
legislators and administrators shaping Louisiana’s economy. If participants would like to drive
over on their own, they will get the discounted rate of $55.
