HUMANITARIAN AID PROVIDED TO THE USA FOLLOWING THE "KATRINA " CYCLONE (16-19 Sep 05) On the 4th of Sep 05, the USA officially requested NATO contribution to manage the disaster occurred by ‘‘KATRINA ’’ Cyclone. On the 9 th of Sep 05, SHAPE issued 10304 OPLAN. NATO member-states provided forces and means to NRF-5. Transportation was coordinated as follows: a. NRF Sea lifts were coordinated by JFC LISBON. b. Air lifts to the USA were coordinated by SHAPE/AMCC. c. Gathering of contributions, within Europe, was coordinated by EADRCC. d. Transportation of relief of high priority was coordinated by NEAWFC and made by Tactical Cargo Aircraft. Contributions of the E.U. countries were gathered at Ramstein Base, Germany, using the transportation a/c of NRF-5. Noting that Greece has allocated one C-130 a/c to NRF-5. The Greek a/c made the following routes: NO DAY ROUTE 112 CW – RAMSTEIN (GERMANY) – 1 16 SEP 05 2 17 SEP 05 RAMSTEIN – BUCHAREST 3 18 SEP 05 BUCHAREST– 112 CW – RAMSTEIN 4 19 SEP 05 RAMSTEIN – NORWAY – 115 CW DENMARK – RAMSTEIN
