The number one goal of the Transportation Department is the safety of our riders. This year we
have been focusing on updating our policies and procedures to make sure we are doing all we can to
provide the safest transportation possible to and from school.
During our review we started looking at safety issues operating our two wheel drive buses on
country roads when the roads are slippery. Therefore we will be implementing storm routes that can be
used when severe road conditions warrant. When the storm route is in effect, the buses will only travel on
the paved roads and we will ask you to meet the bus at a designated stop.
When we determine that using the storm route is necessary, you will get a phone call from the
school’s parent notification system. This is the same system the school uses for school closures. On
those mornings, please meet the bus at your predetermined paved road bus stop. If the storm route is in
effect for the morning, it will also be in effect for that evening.
It is very important that you are to the bus stop before the established time the bus will arrive on
its way to or from school. Not only do we want the buses to stay on schedule, the State Department of
Roads does not allow our buses to stay stopped on the highway for extended periods for obvious safety
issues. You will also need to be parked so that your child can get on the bus without crossing the road.
Please do not park on the highway right of way. The state patrol frowns at obstructions on the highway.
Your child’s safety is very important to us. If you should determine that it is unsafe for you to travel the
roads to meet the bus, your child will have an excused absence and will be able to make up the work
according to the student handbook.
Please look at the information enclosed with this letter. There you will find a map with the bus
stops numbered. Simply choose the bus stop that works best for you and notify the Transportation
Department of your choice, by calling 854-3107 or by sending an email to kyoung@pctelcom.coop.
Please contact us no later than November 22nd so we can have this option in place as soon as possible.
We look forward to hearing from you about your preferred location and answering any questions
that you might have. Thank you for trusting us to transport your child.
