This part of the Player Agreement addresses playing rights, player movement protection of
amateurism and issues of team/ billet fees, player movement and termination of a player agreement within
the Minnesota Junior Hockey League (MNJHL) and USA Hockey. A companion document (“Rules
and Policies for Current and Potential Minnesota Junior Hockey League (MNJHL) Players”) provides a
comprehensive statement of these issues. It is posted on the league website (www.mnjhl.com). In signing
this document the player/guardian acknowledges having reviewed that document and agrees to the rules
and policies contained.
Playing Rights & Playing Status- I (and/or guardian) understand that my MNJHL playing rights are
assigned to the Team identified. Furthermore, I understand that my MNJHL playing rights are retained so
long as I have remaining junior eligibility unless traded or assigned to another MNJHL team. In the event
I am traded, transfer outside or leave the Team under any circumstances my MNJHL playing rights shall
be held by the Team should I later return to the MJHL. I understand that my MNJHL playing rights do
not apply to playing rights in any other league. I understand that my playing rights in other USA Hockey
Leagues are governed by USAH policies and procedures. (See Annual Guide at www.usahockey.com)

Player Agreement
Minnesota Junior Hockey League
Part A (3 Pages)
I understand that each team maintains a 25 player protected list which is registered with USAH.
Players may be added or removed to or from the protected list during the course of a season until final
rosters are confirmed in February. I understand that if at anytime, I am not on the team’s 25 player
protected list, I may seek alternate playing options with teams in any other league. I understand that my
playing rights may be traded or otherwise relinquished by my current team to a MNJHL or other team. I
also understand that during the season, when I am on a team’s protected list, I may not contact or be
contacted by another team whatsoever or I may be subject to sanctions by USA Hockey. Any such contact
must be reported to the league commissioner.
I understand that other MNJHL teams may seek a trade for my playing rights and that I may
accept a trade or may refuse the trade to remain with my current team, or seek playing options in another
USAH league. Furthermore, I may request clarification of my status with the team from the G.M. and the
Commissioner at any time.
Protection of Amateur Status- To help protect the amateur status of all participants under the rules and
guidelines established by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), USA Hockey, Hockey Canada,
the NCAA, the NAIA and the National Federation of High Schools, the Minnesota Junior Hockey League
requires that each player comply with the following regarding tuition, billet fees and employment.
Tuition- I understand that the minimum tuition for all MJHL teams is $4,000. For players who join teams
at various times during the season, tuition is prorated. An individual team’s tuition and/or fees may be
substantially more than the minimum and reflect unique situations and services provided by each team
and are outlined in the Team Agreement (Part B).
I understand that my tuition must be paid by me (or a family member, close friend or solicited by
me based on my own contacts with hometown businesses or friends. Furthermore, I understand that I
must pay my tuition, team and billet fees in full and that the team may not solicit funds on my behalf, may
not provide a discount or rebate, a scholarship or any other fee reduction. I agree to retain cancelled
checks or receipts for payment and to make those available to the MNJHL, USAH or other appropriate
agent upon request to verify compliance.
Billet fees- I understand that I am required to pay a monthly housing (billet) fee to the team billet
representative for housing unless I live at my parents’ home, the home of a relative, close family friend or
other arrangements made by my guardian. See Part C. I understand that I may not be housed with a
member of the team coaching staff except for emergency situations for a period of no more than 2 weeks.
I understand that I must pay my billet fee in full on a monthly basis and that the team may not solicit
funds on my behalf, may not provide a discount or rebate, a scholarship or any other fee reduction. I
understand that billet is not permitted to employ a player in exchange for housing fees.
Employment- No player may be employed by the team. A player must be employed by a business entity
which provides IRS statement (e.g. 1099, W2, etc). An exemption is made for players who are immediate
family members of team staff/Board of Directors who are employed in their family’s business. The team
may assist all players in finding employment: however, all employment opportunities must be at market
rates and all taxes must be withheld as per IRS requirements. Players must retain records to verify that
income tax has been withheld and that compensation is at fair market rate for the services and to make
those available to the MNJHL, USAH or other appropriate agent upon request to verify compliance.

Termination of the Player Agreement - I acknowledge that if I choose to terminate my playing

for other than season ending injury (verified by an independent physician), or if I am dismissed from the
team or league for violation of rules as contained in Parts A, B, or C of this agreement, reimbursement of
my player tuition will be determined per USA Hockey Guidelines.
If I am released or my rights are traded for reasons other than injury or dismissal due to violation
of team, league or USAH rules, I understand that USA Hockey guidelines will determine how much of a
