When choosing the courses you would like to attend as an exchange student at the Department of English and American Studies, please be sure to consider the following: How far along in your studies are you? The Department offers 1st and 2nd cycle programmes leading to the B.A. degree (Years 1, 2, and 3) and to the M.A. degree (Years 1 and 2 – in 2012–2013, only Year 1). You will normally be expected to attend courses corresponding to your level at your home university, although courses from different years can be combined if appropriate (please be aware of potential schedule clashes). What are your academic interests? The Department offers courses in three related fields: English linguistics, literatures in English, and English language teaching, with a number of specialist courses (such as Cultural Modules). In some cases, courses at the Department of English and American Studies can be combined with those at the Department of Translation (http://www.prevajalstvo.net/department-of-translation), Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology (http://etnologija.etnoinfolab.org/en/Default.asp?type_informacij=0&id_meta_type=), and Department of Psychology (http://psy.ff.uni-lj.si/en/). What are your language competences? The language of instruction at the Department is English and the students’ entry level according to the Common European Framework of Reference will usually be a good B2. All learning is done at a C1/C2 level. In some courses, such as Translation or Contrastive Phonetics, good Slovene language skills are required; please read the course descriptions carefully and choose accordingly. How many ECTS credits do you need? Please note that with some courses ECTS credits can only be awarded for a module as a whole and not for its various parts; English Language I-III and Cultural Modules are cases in point. How long are you staying? Most of the courses offered by the Department are all-year courses: they start in the first term and continue in the second, with continuous and/or final assessment. The courses you can take if you come for one term only are suggested below.
