EIDT 6110 Advanced Instructional Design Evaluation Plan Evaluation Process Participants in the workshop will be given a preassessment one week prior to participating in the workshop. This assessment will not be returned to the facilitator or graded. It is to be used as a means of “self-evaluation” for the learner. It will provide a source of retrospection of paradigms and views regarding finances, past and present of the learner thereby, preparing the learner for the learning experience. Participants will be asked at the beginning of the workshop to refer back to their preassessment via a learner activity that involves reflection and introspection in a journaling exercise that asks the learner to assess their views on spending, debt and saving. During the workshop, participants will be exposed to practice activities, these activities will enable the learner to use the tool in a “practice” environment, thereby acquainting them with tool and preparing them for future activities. The first activity will center around the use of the Snowball Debt Calculator o Participants will be given a Snowball Debt Calculator Resource Aid that outlines the steps for entering information into the snowball debt calculator. o They will then be instructed to enter the activity amounts into the designated fields of the calculator, these fictitious amounts are typically of concern for those seeking debt payoffs. o After participants have entered the amounts into the designated sections, they will be directed to observe the changes that occurred within the debt calculator after all of the amounts were entered. The second activity will center on participants taking a sampling of their personal debt, four bills or accounts that they would like to pay off and enter those amounts into the snowball debt calculator. o Participants will then submit a copy of their snowball debt calculator amounts to the facilitator The third activity will center around the use of the Emergency Fund Calculator o Participants will be given an Emergency Fund Calculator Resource Aid that outlines the steps for entering information into the emergency fund calculator. o They will then be instructed to enter the activity amounts into the designated fields of the calculator. o After participants have entered the amounts into the designated sections, they will be directed to observe the calculated amounts needed to create their own emergency fund. The fourth activity will center on participants creating an actual emergency fund plan. The participants will enter actual amounts reflective of their current resources into the emergency fund calculator, when they get the amount needed for the fund, they will then email a copy of the calculator to their facilitator, along with a one month plan on how they will develop their emergency plan. © Laureate Education, Inc. Page 1 EIDT 6110 Advanced Instructional Design At the end of the workshop, the learner will reflect on the information presented. The learner will be asked to summarize what they have learned. In addition, the learner will be asked to identify any topics which were unclear or needed further explanation. Activities and exercises will also be assessed to determine their relevance. Learners will also be asked a question about topic sequencing to determine if the order of ideas presented makes sense and builds upon previous knowledge. Four weeks after the workshop has been concluded, a survey will be sent to participants to assess: o If they are using the Snowball Debt Calculator, if so how well is it working for them? o What are their thoughts on debt, saving, etc. after they completed the workshop? If their views changed or not and why or why not? o If they are using the Emergency Fund Calculator, if so how well is it working for them? Alignment to the Five Levels of Evaluation Because of this kind of training, the level 1 or smiley face evaluation will be given to the participants directly after completing the workshop. This information will be essential in determining if areas of the training need to be increased, decreased, or taken out of the training. The level 2 evaluation will be relying heavily on the student’s use and mastery of the two calculators within the course. The practice activities will expose them to the tools and the personal execution labs will enable the facilitator to determine if they truly understood the concepts around using the tool, as well as understanding how to use the tools. Because of the subject matter of this workshop, it will be difficult to assess evaluation 3 behavior and 4 results, during training, therefore a survey will be designed to be sent to participants four weeks after completion of the workshop to gauge usage of the two calculators introduced in the training as well as check participants usage of debt snowballing and emergency fund planning. I am also considering checking back in with participants six months after completion of the training to see the amount of progress, if any that has been accomplished with debt snowballing and developing an emergency fund. There will not be a Level 5 ROI done on this particular workshop. © Laureate Education, Inc. Page 2 EIDT 6110 Advanced Instructional Design Alignment of Unit Goals to the evaluation process Workshop Objective Learn about financial topics, such as debt, credit, debt ratio and debt load. Component of Evaluation Plan Level 1 Discuss the principle of Snowball Budgeting Level 2 Construct a sample of a personal budget using Snowball Budgeting concepts Level 2 Construct a sample emergency fund Level 2 Design a personal snowball debt calculation Level 2,3,4 Design a personal emergency fund and emergency fund plan Level 2,3,4 Evaluation Tools and Materials The Level 1 was created using Kirkpatrick’s parameters for creating surveys that gauged learner’s feelings about the course they were taking. It was determined that a “smile sheet” would give a clear evaluation of the overall look and feel of the course. The Level 2 will be accomplished during the workshop, using the two “practice sessions”, and the two “personal applications sessions” in which participants will enter their personal information into the two calculators to determined payment amounts to pay off acquired debt, and additional personal information to determine amounts needed for an emergency fund. The Level 3 and 4 will be sent in the form of an email with open ended questions centering on participants usage, difficulties, insights, etc. There will not be a Level 5 done on this learning intervention. Summary of modifications: Workshop Objectives: I also created two additional objectives for the workshop centering on designing a personal emergency plan and personal snowball debt calculations. I also deleted the object: Identify practice tips of using rather than abusing credit, because, it was determined that this objective was not conducive to the topics of debt snowballing and emergency fund creation. Formative Evaluation: I totally changed the reasoning and the preassessment, because I felt that it was more important to find out learners views on debt rather than test them on terms because of their age range and because of the fact these are educated people. I didn’t think that it would be a value-added learning experience. © Laureate Education, Inc. Page 3 EIDT 6110 Advanced Instructional Design Summative Evaluation: I incorporated two practical activities, centering on the participants personal finances which they will have access to during the workshop. One final activity was changed to two final activities.
