COOKSON PRECIOUS METALS LIMITED JOB DESCRIPTION AND STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE JOB TITLE: Direct Metal Laser Sintering Technician REPORTS TO: Direct Metal Laser Sintering Development Manager LOCATION(S): Birmingham DATE: October 2013 JOB PURPOSE A key resource in the successful development of Direct Metal Laser Sintering technology (DMLS) into the precious metal industry involving CPM, industry partners and appropriate academic institutions. Principal Accountabilities 1 Operate DMLS equipment to efficiently produce parts to internal and external customer specifications. 2 Administer and post process parts after DMLS, including part preparation and processing for delivery. 3 Assist in DMLS department administrative functions such as quote preparation, material accountability, production tracking and planning, sales support and customer interactions. 4 Use advanced software for 3DCAD applications including Rhino, Magics, and machine SW to repair or alter STL-files, generate support structures, and prepare data for production. 5 Provide a high quality service to internal and external customers. 6 Effectively control and manage all allocated resources. 7 Maintain open and effective lines of communication. 8 Health and safety of self and others. 9 Understand and apply all CPM Security protocols. 10 Flexibility. 1 Operate DMLS equipment to efficiently produce parts to internal and external customer specifications. SOP is achieved when: a) Parts are being manufactured according to agreed production schedules. b) The machine equipment is safely and confidently handled, and work is being planned in order to make best possible use of machine time. c) All required maintenance of equipment is planned and carried out. d) Production results are analysed and interpreted to achieve continuous process improvement. e) Good record keeping is maintained throughout the production process. 2 Administer and post process parts after DMLS, including part preparation and processing for delivery SOP is achieved when: a) DMLS parts are post-processed and delivered from the department according to agreed production schedules. b) Good record keeping is maintained throughout the production process. 3 Assist in DMLS department administrative functions such as quote preparation, material accountability, production tracking and planning, sales support and customer interactions SOP is achieved when: a) Adequate records of department functions are kept and maintained so the company can accurately analyse department functions to allow for continuous quality improvement. b) When the department can adequately respond to internal and external customer enquiries. 4 Use advanced software for 3DCAD applications including Rhino, Magics, and DMLS machine SW to repair or alter STL-files, generate support structures, and prepare data for production SOP is achieved when: a) Software tools can be used efficiently to facilitate manufacturing of each individual part. b) Production results are analysed and interpreted to achieve continuous process improvement. 5 Provide a high quality service to internal and external customers. SOP is achieved when: a) Sample requests are evaluated for DMLS suitability. b) Opportunities for design improvement are identified and communicated as appropriate. c) Accurate process data is collected to support financial costing. d) Facilitate the finishing of samples after DMLS. e) Sample pieces are manufactured to agreed parameters. 6 Effectively control and manage all allocated resources. SOP is achieved when: a) In line with CPM stock policies all stock is controlled within the specified area. b) Undertake stock take audits to the defined schedule. c) Labour requirements are established to satisfy required build schedules. d) A record of time / resource invested in specific activities is maintained. e) Working losses are routinely and robustly reviewed with every recovery opportunity identified and implemented. 7 Maintain open and effective lines of communication. SOP is achieved when: a) Response to any internal / external requests for support are made within the defined timeframes. b) All communication (written, verbal, internal, and external) is of a professional standard and for customer sensitive issues are approved by a member of the CPM Management Team. 8 Health & Safety. SOP is achieved when: a) Health & Safety practices are consistently applied. b) Any work based concerns are promptly raised with the appropriate Manager. c) Takes and accepts responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment for self and others. 9 Security SOP is achieved when: a) Control of CPMs stock, including precious metal, is maintained so as to safeguard the company’s assets, whilst complying fully with the security policy and procedures. b) Security instructions, including all exit / entry protocol’s, are consistently applied. c) Any Security concerns are confidentially raised with either your Manager or a member of the Security Team. d) All information is considered and treated as highly confidential and not communicated in any way beyond the agreed formal partners. 10 Flexibility SOP is achieved when: a) When requested to do so, tasks outside your usual area of responsibility are undertaken.
