The Consultant post in South Lincolnshire was a development post setting up a Community Mental Health Team in an area previously serviced for years by retired locum consultants. This led to a qualification in Jungian Analytical Psychotherapy. I am on the UKCP Register of Psychotherapists. My psychotherapy practice has been well supervised by senior analysts 2 and psychoanalytic psychotherapists. I regularly attend meetings and conferences on psychotherapy, and read and study privately. I have supervised the work of counsellors and other psychotherapists for some years. I have acted as training therapist for a number of psychotherapy and counselling courses. My usual patient load has always included long term work with survivors of sexual abuse and personality difficulties of a borderline nature. Since 2009 I have trained in a form of Energy Psychotherapy which is very useful in cases of trauma (rather like EMDR), Advanced Integrative Therapy, and am a Certified AIT Practitioner, Teacher and Supervisor Couple Work I see couples as well as individuals, and regularly assist at couples workshops Parenting Training November –December 2011 I trained to offer parenting workshops. This informs my practice with indic=viduals involved in Children Act proceedings Medico-Legal Practice 1993-2011 I gave up my medico-legal practice at the end of 2011 to focus on clincal work. I am not taking any new cases since then, but there is still ongoing work with a few outstanding complex cases. Family Law In the area of Children Act Proceedings I have prepared in total about 900 reports including in highly complex cases of alleged Factitious Illness syndrome. Many of the parents I assess have personality disorders including Borderline Personality Disorder, and a history of childhood sexual or other forms of abuse and neglect. I regularly give evidence in Court. My training and practice as a Psychotherapist was highly relevant for the assessment of parents in child care cases as many parents themselves have had highly dysfunctional experiences of being parented and presented with serious personality and/or attachment issues. I brought to my assessment in these cases knowledge of the research findings of the impact that adult behaviour has on the development of the child and day to day clinical experience of in depth psychotherapy with adults that at times may focus on issues from their childhood. My experience of assessments for my psychotherapy practice also informed my opinion on prospects for change and recommendations for appropriate psychiatric and psychological treatments. Personal Injury I accumulated experience of preparing about 80 reports in cases where there are alleged issues of professional malpractice, negligence and abuse of the professional relationship by psychiatric social workers, priests, psychiatrists and other doctors, psychotherapists, counsellors, community psychiatric nurses, psychologists and other professionals. For 18 years I regularly gave opinions on Duty of Care, and Causation Condition and Prognosis in cases involving not only doctors, but across the spectrum of mental healthcare.
