SECTION 2: RECOMMENDATION, TRANSCRIPT & ESSAY
Please provide the following information:
 Letter of recommendation from someone other than a relative who knows you well.
 One copy of an official transcript is required for consideration of all Scholarships.
 To be considered for a scholarship, an essay is required. The essay must be typewritten and
double spaced. The essay will be rated on content, depth, grammar, and organization. Include
your full name on each page.
There are three categories of scholarships that you may apply for:
1. Evelyn Beam, Merit, or Student Award Scholarships – select one question from below and
submit a 500 word essay.
(a) Select a creative work -- a novel, a film, a poem, a musical piece, a painting or other work of
art -- that has influenced the way you view the world and the way you view yourself. Discuss the
work and its effect on you.
(b) If you could hold a conversation with someone (living or deceased) you consider significant,
whom would you talk to and what would you talk about? Describe your conversation.

2. Helping Hands Award – submit a 300 word essay describing your Community Service
involvement.
3. Matthew F. Hopkins - submit a 300 word essay addressing the following:
Community service can be a valuable part of the college experience. If you were to devote one year
of service to a volunteer project, what would it be, and what would you hope to accomplish?
NOTE: Letters of Recommendation on your behalf must be submitted from a person that knows you well (no
relatives).
