Course Descriptions Entry Level Rope Rescue This course is designed for the department or persons that have no previous background in ropes and rope rescue, and have minimal equipment to get started. Skills taught will include: Equipment selections, ropes, knots, mechanical advantage systems, and practical skills for rescues from low angles will be introduced. Practical application is taught through scenarios drawn from actual experiences. The class is a hands on class which requires some outdoor exercise locations. Class Duration = 12 hours Rope Rescue Technician I This course is designed to be taught as the next level to the entry level Rope Rescue course. The course requires either an in depth knowledge of ropes and rescue techniques; or the Entry Level Rope Rescue course as the pre-requisite. The course skills taught include: Equipment Selection, Maintenance, and Use. Knots, anchors, patient packaging, mechanical advantage systems, belaying, lowering and raising systems, rappelling, litter rigging and tending, and other practical rescue skills for high and low angle rescues. A considerable amount of time will be spent on these skills, and their use in various rescues. The class is 95% hands on, and is intended for those departments or personnel whom will be expected to perform technical rope rescue of high and low angle. The class requires the ability to use either a tower or other natural high and low angle locations for the field practical portions of the class. All students must have basic rope rescue PPE including their own harness, helmet, gloves, and coverall or bunker gear. Proof or workers compensation coverage or waiver form must be signed before the student will be allowed to participate in field exercises Class Duration = 24 hours Rope Rescue Technician II This course covers updates on equipment and rescue techniques. Introduction to high lines, advanced stokes basket handling, guide lines, and review of general rescue techniques covered in Rope Rescue Technician III. The class is 100% hands on, and is intended for those departments or personnel whom are already doing technical rope rescue in high angle environments. Several intensive real to life scenarios will be conducted to challenge the existing and new skills of the rope rescue technician. Pre-requisite for this class is Rope Rescue Technician I, or demonstrated competencies. The class requires the ability to use either a tower or other natural high angle locations for the field exercises. All students must have basic rope rescue PPE including their own harness, helmet, gloves, and coverall or bunker gear. Proof or workers compensation coverage or waiver form must be signed before the student will be allowed to participate in field exercises Class Duration = 16 hours Confined Space Entry Rescue This course is designed to take an entry level rescuer ( no prior training ), to the competencies needed to meet the OSHA 1910.126 and NFPA 1670 regulations and standards for confined space rescue teams. The course is intensive, and 50% hands on. It will prepare the industrial or fire / rescue responder to safely and affectively manage and support a confined space entry rescue. The course varies in length from 16 – 32 hours based on whether certain pre-requisites are met ( Haz Mat Operations, First Aid CPR ). The class requires the ability to use a confined space location for the field exercises. All students must have basic PPE including helmet, gloves, and coverall or bunker gear. Department breathing apparatus is preferred, but can be provided. Proof or workers compensation coverage or waiver form must be signed before the student will be allowed to participate in field exercises Class Duration = 16 – 32 hours Trench Rescue Skills taught include OSHA competent person soil types, sloping requirements, and regulations covering trenches and excavations. The course includes preplanning, cave in evaluation, and stabilization and shoring using wood, hydraulic and air shores. All students must have basic PPE including helmet, gloves, and coverall or bunker gear. The host agency needs to assist in locating a place that suitable trench locations can be constructed to accomplish practical evaluations. Proof or workers compensation coverage or waiver form must be signed before the student will be allowed to participate in field exercises Class Duration = 16 hours Emergency Building Shoring This course meets the requirements for FEMA specialists urban search and rescue structure specialist, and covers technician level NFPA 1670 structural collapse skills. Skills taught include building collapse evaluation, incident command, marking and building condition identification systems, shoring principles, and structural collapse support concepts. Students will construct bracing and shoring in various stages of collapse, at the same time completing search and rescue and patient packaging. All students must have basic PPE including helmet, gloves, and coverall or bunker gear. The host agency needs to assist in locating a place that is suitable for the construction of shoring and completing practical evolutions. Proof or workers compensation coverage or waiver form must be signed before the student will be allowed to participate in field exercises. Class is 70% hands on.
