Create Your Own Ecosystem
Due: ______________
There are many different terrestrial (land) and aquatic (water) ecosystems on the
earth. For example: forests, fields, rainforests, deserts, ponds, oceans, coral reefs, marshes,
and areas of the Arctic all have their own special interactions.
These ecosystems are made up of a perfect combination of abiotic and biotic factors.
Plants and animals live in the ecosystem that has the conditions that suits them best.
Example: A desert’s abiotic factors would include such things as hot temperatures, intense
sunlight, dry air, nutrient-poor soil and little water availability. The plants and animals (the
biotic factors) living in a desert would have to be able to survive in these hot and dry
conditions.
Your Task: To represent an ecosystem using pictures. It can be one listed above (except
deserts) or it can be one that you have created on your own or an imaginary ecosystem.
You are to hand in either a drawing OR a 3-d design.
Details:
- Your design must have/show:
1. The following biotic factors:

At least 2 plants (producers)

At least 2 herbivores (primary consumers)

At least 3 carnivores (secondary consumers)

1 top consumer
2. At least 2 abiotic factors.
3. A title must be included (what type of ecosystem is this)
Your design must be neat, creative and colourful!!!
How to design your ecosystem:
Answer the questions below (in order) to help make the ecosystem you are to represent.
1. What ecosystem are you representing?
_________________________________________________________________
2. What abiotic factors are there? (water, weather, soil, sunlight)
_________________________________________________________________
3. What plants live there? This will give you your producers.
_________________________________________________________________
4. What animals feed on these plants? (primary consumers)
_________________________________________________________________
5. What animals feed on these animals? (secondary consumers)
_________________________________________________________________
6. What animal feeds on these animals but is not eaten by anything else? (top carnivore)

Check List:
Do you have:

At least 2 plants (producers)

At least 2 herbivores (primary consumers)

At least 3 carnivores (secondary consumers)

1 top consumer

At least 2 abiotic factors.

A title
NOTE: No write-up needs to be submitted.
