Mathematics Department AS & A2 COURSES Syllabus: University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate – Modular Mathematics. Copies of the syllabus may be located in the department office. Provision: The department offers two A-Level options. On the outset of the course, each student is required to specify whether they wish to ‘specialise’ in Statistics or Mechanics. They are advised by the Head of Department, their year 11 teacher and their choice of other AS-levels. The modules then taken are: AS: P1 M1 S1 A2: P2 P3 S2 or M2 This structure enables each student to experience a wide enrichment of post-16 mathematics. We also offer A-level Further Mathematics to our most gifted mathematicians. This comprises: Y12 Y13 A2: P1 A2: P3 P2 P4 P3 P5 S1 S2 M1 M2 M3 S3 Examinations: Students take examinations in P1, S1 and M1 by the end of Year 12, and the remaining modules during, and at the end of, Year 13. Examinations may be re-sat in order to improve upon an existing grade (although this should be avoided). Resources: Students are expected to supply their own textbooks for the duration of the course. These are supplemented by worksheets where appropriate. We have a ‘bank’ of past papers and marking schemes for use prior to the examinations. Graphical calculators are supplied by the department for use during lesson time. Dparker 2002
