New Advanced Web Hosting Service
This form is to be used to request a new South West Grid for Learning Advanced Web Hosting
service
To enable us to complete your request, we need to gather certain information from you.
Once you have completed the form please email to change@swgfl.org.uk.

If You Are Moving an Existing Web Site
If you already have a web site which you wish to move to a SWGfL Advanced Web Hosting service
you will have to make some preparations before submitting this form. Once submitted we will
manage the change process to minimise downtime for your web site. Your assistance will be
required to ensure this is the case.
The following process will generally apply where we host your DNS and current hosting. If this is not
the case please let us know and we will be happy to modify the process to suit your needs:

You should save a copy of your current site to a computer on your network
You should submit this form with all fields completed as required
We will create the new hosting space and provide ftp access to it
You will need to upload your locally saved copy of your site to the new hosting space
You will need to inform us when you are ready for the new web site to go live
We will make changes to your DNS records (where possible) to make your new site live *
Your Responsibilities
Please note that when moving a web site from its current location to a new SWGfL Advanced
Hosting service the following applies



You are responsible for moving any data from your current service to the new Advanced
Hosting service
The Advanced Hosting service is accessible by FTP and you will have to be familiar with
the use of FTP to fully utilise your new service. Our web based management tool will allow
you to upload your site but this works best with smaller sites using less files.
Moving between Windows and Linux based hosting, or between different server
technologies and versions, might cause problems with any existing content. You will need
to make sure these factors are prepared for before migrating your web site.
If You Are Creating a New Site
If you are requesting Advanced Web Hosting for a new web site and do not have an existing site to
transfer, the process is very simple. We will create the hosting space and provide you with the FTP
details to upload to it. We will also configure a holding page which will be visible on the Internet until
you either replace it or remove it.
