It boasts vivid murals and inscriptions. The tomb has been recently opened to the public after restoration. Assiut University teaching began in October 1957. It is located in Assiut City, which is 375 kms south of Cairo. The university hostels provide accommodation for about 30% of the total number of regular university students in Egypt, and include 16 faculties and one institute. Teaching in the Faculty of Medicine began in October 1959. It includes 27 departments. Assiut University Hospital is located in the university campus. It is considered one of the biggest university hospitals in Egypt (1780 beds) and it is the core medical center in Upper Egypt. It serves about twenty millions of population. Luxor is the world’s greatest open-air museum, filled with the aweinspiring monuments of ancient civilization. It was the capital of Egypt during the New Kingdom (1567-1085 BC); as Thebes it was described by Homer as “the hundred-gate city.” Its later name, Al-Oksor, means “City of the Palaces” where you can walk through history; past statues with the heads of gods and animals.
