In 1961, the Arts Center hosted its first statewide
children’s art exhibition – continued annually from 1963
to the present. This exhibition merged in 1983 with the
competition developed by the partnership between the
Arkansas Department of Education and Barrett
Hamilton. Today, the exhibition continues to reward the
creative achievement of the youth of Arkansas with a
major exhibition in the galleries of the Arkansas Arts
Center.

MEDIA
EXHIBITION 2000
Ten to twelve art objects per grade level (K-12) –
approximately 150 objects – will be exhibited in the
galleries of the Arkansas Arts Center from April 21
through May 29, 2000.
Open to all students kindergarten through
Grade 12 in Arkansas schools--public and private.
Entries must be submitted by schools – not by
individual students or parents.
Work should be done in school with the supervision
of an art teacher and/or regular classroom teacher
during the 1999-2000 school year.
Work must be original – that is, not copied from a
published photograph, magazine, or book
illustration or any other artwork.
Works on paper – drawings, prints, etc. – MUST
be securely mounted in standard WHITE mats
or poster board. NO FRAMES OR COLORED
MATS.
Mats must have sturdy backing (i.e. cardboard,
etc.) of equal size to protect the artwork and to
aid in handling. Each work must be rigid
enough to “stand alone” when leaned against a
wall. These rules aid in the fair judging of all
works and the preservation of the artwork.
