The story of the rivalry between the gangs of Anwar Thakur who controls the operations of his 50 members group from within the confines of Tihar and Saleem Pehelwan started in 2006 when Saleem and his brother Naim killed Anwar’s close associate Ibrahim @ Baddu. Thakur is a known criminal from Meerut who was a one time associate of Fazl-ur-Rehman also in jail, who was alleged to be a close associate of Dawood Ibrahim. He stood against Fazl-ur-Rehman when his brother Ashraf @ Bhaiya dominated extortion business in Bombay and extended threat to the owner of Topaz Bar, an acquaintance of Fazlu. Ashraf had amassed a good wealth in extortion business in Bombay and financed the activities of Anwar Gang which dominated Delhi from 2000 till 2010. Ashraf, his younger brother was killed in an encounter by Bombay police in 2002. Another younger brother of Anwar namely Raja Thakur took the command of gang and killed Saleem Pehelwan in 2010 in association of Akil Don, Tasleem, Salim, Rahis Ahmed @ Langra, IR Khan in Shahdara. The immediate provocation was an incident in January 2010 when IR Khan, a close friend of Anwar, was slapped by Naim, the brother of Saleem Pehalwan during a wedding function. Naim, meanwhile was desperate to avenge his brother’s killing, hired contract killers and attacked on Hasim, the brother of IR Khan but he escaped unhurt. Later, Tasleem at the instance of Anwar and Zargam at the instance of Naim Pehalwan got into fight and Zargan killed two persons namely Tariq and Taiyeb who were close associates of Anwar Thakur. Anwar hatched the conspiracy to kill Shamim Chaudhary, an associate of Naim gang who had been involved in the attack on Hasim. Anwar Thakur in order to take revenge hired two killers namely Salim Roti and Ayub who came to Delhi and shot dead Shamim in crowded Seelampur market in 2010 but Shabbir Chaudhary, Shamim’s younger brother with his associates lynched both the killers at the spot itself. In 2010, Shabbir further killed Irshad, an associate of Anwar Thakur who had given shelter to Salim Roti and Ayub. Both Anwar Thakur, the kingpin of Meerut gang and Sabbir Chaudhary, the leader of Sufi gang of Sakhni and Muzzafar Nagar are rivals and are lodged in Tihar jail in these cases. Anwar Thakur had come on Parole on May 5, 2014 and since than trying to claim his lost ground. He had thus purchased firearms and ammunitions from various persons from Delhi and Meerut to settle score with the rival gang. He had kept Bobby, Naim and some of their other supporters in Trans Yamuna area on his hit list. With the recent murders committed by Hashim @ Baba and Nasir which followed their arrests by the police, has intensified the gang war between groups of Anwar Thakur, Kamal and Sabir Chaudhary once again. Further investigation on to arrest the persons who had supplied weapons to Anwar Thakur and who are trying to neutralize other active members of the gang based in Delhi and Meerut. RECOVERY: 1.
