2. GOALS FOR ATTENDING THE INSTITUTE
TLNI is designed to help campus teams develop a plan for fostering data-informed change initiatives aimed at
improving the quality of students’ experiences in courses and educational activities across the curriculum, leading to
increases in student engagement, retention and graduation, and learning outcomes. At the institute, your team will
construct a two-year action plan informed by current research on student learning and learning-centered campus
practices, and grounded in the specific context and experiences of your campus. The more we know about your goals
for attending this institute, the better we can tailor the curriculum to support your work.
1.
What concerns do you have about the quality of students’ experiences in courses and/or educational activities
across the curriculum? How did these issues or areas for improvement come to your attention?
2.
If your team is accepted, which of these issues or areas would you like to address at the Institute?
3.
Are there specific approaches or practices you’d like to learn more about, that would help you foster datainformed change aimed at improving students’ experiences in courses and educational activities?
4.
Why is this a good time for your campus to send a team to this institute, and what do you hope to accomplish?
3. YOUR STUDENTS
Prior to arriving at the institute, we expect teams to have had discussions about what campus assessments (NSSE,
CCSSE, rubrics, student ratings of instruction, and other measures) suggest in terms of areas of improvement. The
registrar, institutional researcher, and/or chief academic officer are likely collaborators for compiling the information
requested below.
