1 ELIZABETH ANNE WUESTE ewueste@berkeley.edu RESEARCH INTERESTS and CURRENT PROJECT Classical art and archaeology, particularly Roman sculpture, honorific monuments, epigraphy, history, painting, archaeological fieldwork, and museum studies. Dissertation focuses on the honorific monuments (inscribed statue bases, body sculptures, and portrait heads) to/of politicians in the 3rd-5th c. CE, using art historical, epigraphic, and material evidence to draw conclusions about the construction of Late Antique political power, particularly through the use (or omission) of religion (Christianity and otherwise). Also explores issues such as the interplay between religion and art, Roman provincial administration, and the larger evolution of Roman portrait sculpture. Under the advisement of Professor Christopher Hallett.
