***All FFA members must abide by the following rules***
1. Eligibility- Only FFA and Junior FFA members in good standing may utilize the FFA farm
facility.
2. Animals Allowed at the Lamar FFA Farm- Animals that will be allowed to be housed will
consist of cattle, sheep, goats, swine, and poultry. Any exceptions must be granted by the Lamar
High School FFA advisors in writing. No male breeding animals of any species are allowed at
the farm.
3. Liability- At no time can Houston ISD, Lamar FFA, Lamar High School nor any other school
employee or administrator be held liable of death of an animal project. These individuals will not
be held liable for any injury to a student, student's guest or family members while at this facility.
*Any injuries or hazards should be reported to an FFA advisor immediately.
4. Prior Approval- This facility is intended for the use of Lamar FFA students only. All animal
projects must be approved by a Lamar High School FFA advisor, and assigned a stall, BEFORE
being brought to the farm. This includes heifers previously housed at the farm and moved away
for breeding or other purposes.
5. Verification of Animal Eligibility- Heifer projects that extend into another show season must
receive permission to remain at the project center. Pregnancy certification may be required
depending on the eligibility requirements for the breed.
6. Visitors- Only students and family who house projects at the facility are allowed access to the
facility. Any other individuals must receive approval from an agriculture teacher after undergoing
a background check.
7. Prior Approval- Before moving a project into the facility a student must complete the
following:
a. Obtain permission from the Lamar High School agriculture teachers.
b. In the case of heifers, the registration papers and pregnancy certification (if required), must
be provided to the agriculture teacher.
c. Students and Parents must sign the member handbook stating that both have read and
understand the rules and consequences of the FFA farm facility.
d. If the animal is a market animal that will be shown at the Lamar FFA school show, the
exhibitor must comply with all the requirements for the show.
8. Facility Hours- This facility will have designated hours that will be as follows.
Mondays through Fridays
6am-9pm
Saturday and Sunday
6am-10pm
These hours will be enforced. Any exceptions must be granted by the Lamar High School
agriculture teachers. If students are given permission to enter the facility any other times than
listed above, they must have a parent with them at all times. Violations of curfew could result in
immediate eviction.
9. Student Projects- (Not Parent Projects) These projects are the responsibility of the students
and not the parents. We ask the parents to support the students to the fullest extent, but these
are the student's projects.
10. Animal Welfare- If the animal is not being properly care for, as determined by the FFA
advisor, the student will be given a warning. After the first warning, the parent will be notified and
the student will be informed that if another violation occurs, the student will have 48 hours to
remove their animal or ownership will be transferred to Lamar FFA and sold at a local livestock
exchange for market price.
11. Other Students' Projects- Do not handle or feed anyone else's project without permission
from that person or Lamar agriculture teacher. If an animal needs feed or water, call one of the
agriculture teachers and report it.
12. Fans- Do not turn another student's fan on or off. If a heifer is turned out to the pasture, turn
your fan off.
13. Wash Rack- Wash animals at designated wash racks only. It is student's responsibility to
clean the wash rack of any manure or trash.
14. Designated Manure Areas- Dump manure in designated areas only. Do not dump just
outside the barn gates.
15. Professional Behavior- Students are expected to act in a professional manner at all times
while at the facility. Any activities which endanger the health or physical well being of students,
animals, parents, administrators, or advisors is strictly prohibited.
16. Proper Behavior while at the Barn- While at the FFA farm facility, keep your body language
"quiet". This means no screaming, yelling, sudden moves, running, throwing things in the barn,
etc.
17.Show Exhibitor Behavior- The projects are not "rodeo" animals. Absolutely no riding,
tackling, roping, etc. of any animals will be tolerated. This behavior is detrimental to halter
breaking and the health of the animal.
18. Stealing Will Not Be Tolerated- Anyone caught stealing is subject to immediate eviction and
possibly criminal charges. *Stealing is feeding your animal feed or hay that you did not
purchase without permission. It is your responsibility to purchase your own feed and hay-not
anyone else's. "Borrowing" does not produce responsibility.
19. No Pets, No Exceptions- Absolutely no dogs or pets of any kind will be permitted at the FFA
facility. NO EXCEPTIONS.
20. Flip Flops- Open toe shoes and flip flops are not permitted.
21. Prohibited Items- The possession and use of alcohol, tobacco, or nay illegal drugs is strictly
prohibited. Guns of any kind are strictly prohibited.
22. Farm Work Days- All students using the facility for the FFA projects are required to work 15
hours per year at the scheduled workdays. This is in addition to the regular feeding and care of
their animals. All other FFA students who are showing a plant or animal project (but not using the
Lamar Farm facility) at the Lamar FFA School Show must work a minimum of 5 hours at the
Lamar FFA farm facility. These are many workdays scheduled throughout the year. Any student
who has not worked their minimum required hours, will not be allowed to show or sell their project
at the show. Everyone is busy, and there will always be something else to do, but at some point,
the student must make the workday a priority.
23. Animal Removal after Show Season- The exhibitor is to remove all market animals from
the Lamar FFA farm after their respective market shows. Market animals shown at the Lamar
School Show may not return to the barn after the show. Breeding projects that extend into
another show season must receive permission to remain at the project center.
24. FFA Meetings Attendance- Any student showing a project in the Lamar School Show must
attend 3 FFA meetings held throughout the school year. Attendance is recorded, and this rule will
be enforced.
25. Problems and Chain of Command- When a problem or concern arises, the way to resolve it
is by following the established "chain-of-command." Always begin with the supervising teacher.
1. Supervising teacher
2. Lamar CATE director
3. Principal
4. Central Office
26. Animal Death- If an animal dies at the facility, it is the exhibitor's responsibility to remove the
carcass within two hours of being notified of death. If the carcass is not removed within two hours,
this service will be provided at the expense of the owner of the animal project. If this expense is
not paid, the exhibitor forfeits the privilege of using the farm facility in the future.
27. Transportation- Students and parents must arrange transportation to and from the FFA
facility.
28. Eligibility of Heifers- Only registered heifers which are eligible to be shown at the major
shows during the current school year are eligible to be kept at the Lamar Farm. At the end of the
school year, if the heifer will remain eligible the following year, permission will be given to keep
the heifer at the farm for another year, provided all the other requirements are met. (Student in
good standing with Lamar FFA) In the case of graduating seniors, the student's heifer must be
removed from the farm on or before the last day of school. If a student's heifer project has a calf,
this does not make the heifer eligible to stay at the farm. If an FFA members wishes to show the
female offspring of a heifer, it must be at least 6 months old, registered, weaned and have the
approval of the agriculture teachers before it is moved back to the farm.
29. Terms, Conditions, and Consequences- Lamar High School reserves the right to remove
any animal from the facility if any of the following conditions exist:
1. Animal abuse or neglect in any form
2. Diseased or infected animals
3. Students failing to observe rules
4. Animals not being housed for show purposes
5. Student is no longer involved in program
6. Any animal housed at the project center is not being shown under FFA
If the student fails to abide by any of the above mentioned rules or guidelines, actions will be
taken to remove the animal or ban any future FFA farm privileges. The student is subject to
disciplinary action or fines for failure to comply with these rules.
