FRIDAY STUDENT PRESENTATION GUIDE PURPOSE The purpose of your presentation is to get creative in demonstrating your understanding of Marine Biotechnology. We will be looking for unique expression of your individual perspectives. Consider this final assignment a chance to showcase as much of the information you have learned during the workshop as possible and as a forum for expression of new ideas. PRESENTATION GUIDELINES Use the Tuesday presentation guidelines as a reference to make sure your presentation is cohesive and organized. The following are suggestions for possible presentation topics. You may choose from the list below or conceptualize your own idea: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) Job interviews at a pharmaceutical company A song about DNA A scene involving a CSI investigation Scientists reporting on a new organism Scientists preparing for an ocean research cruise Organizing the Climate Change Genome Project Creating a new life form GUIDELINES FOR GROUP WORK 1. Each member of the group should participate equally in creating and presenting the presentation. 2. Each member of the group should participate equally in the preparation of a worksheet for your audience to fill out during/after your talk. AUDIENCE WORKSHEET CONTENT 1. Prepare a one-page worksheet with 4-6 questions and space for answers. Questions can be in any format (i.e. multiple choice, True/False, fill-in blank or short answer). 2. The audience should be able to answer all your questions based on information contained within your presentation Copyright 2008, MLML – NSF ITEST Program 1 of 3 Marine Biotechnology Friday Student Presentation Guide RESOURCES We would like you to choose an interpretive format such as a skit, a song or a game. Be creative and have fun! The use of props and/or costumes is encouraged! You will have access to the computers in the computer lab (S119). You may use any workshop materials and/or experiences, including the digital and/or video cameras. The Teaching Assistants will be available to assist you with equipment and/or to talk about ideas relating to your topic. Coordinate the borrowing of any equipment from the wet lab with your TAs. Your presentation should be 8-10 minutes long. You will have time on Wednesday afternoon and Friday to prepare your presentations. You will also have time in the evenings. Plan your time wisely. Make sure that both your presentation and worksheet are saved to transportable media. All of your work on the classroom computers will be erased each night. EVALUATION A staff member will use the attached evaluation sheet to assess your presentation.
