Cedar Riverbury Tales Project
Instructions
Now that you know a little about what life was like for the medieval group you have
researched, and in the spirit of the original Canterbury Tales, you will now get a chance to write
and perform your own Cedar Riverbury Tale.
Requirements:
 You will write your own ‘tale’ about what medieval life was like for someone in the
group you researched.
 You can use any format you’d like: a short story, a poem, a news report, a song – be
creative!
 Your tale must be written in the first person.
 At least 12 facts about your life (from your research) must be woven into your writing –
at least one fact from each culture universal or your ‘wonderment and awe’
 Try to create some kind of emotion with your ‘tale’ like comedy, tragedy, irony, or fright
Extra Credit: Present your Cedar Riverbury Tale in class and see if you can win the contest
that the “Host” is offering
 Your tale should take about 30 seconds to read.
 Practice it ahead of time so that you can use an entertaining, interesting, and enthusiastic
voice
 Create a one-slide picture (shared with your teacher) to have showing while you present
 Dress as your character, use an appropriate prop during your reading (optional)
