1. Three of the most important stats are point per game (PPG), assists per game (APG), and rebounds per game (RPG). Use the charts above to compare
the two players in these three categories. Write all of your comparisons below. Using recent stats, who would you say is the more valuable player?
2. Some people think that assists are a very important stat, because each assist equals two or three points for that player’s team. If we count each assist
as being worth two points and then add those points to a players point per game average, how many points per game are each of these players involved
in?
3. Look at the season averages in terms of PPG, APG and RPG. Identify a typical or rough average PPG, APG and RPG for each player’s career. After
coming up with these “rough” averages, write a sentence or two comparing the player’s careers.
4. You might notice that Deron’s stats during his first season are relatively low compared to the rest of his career. This might be due to the lower
number of minutes per game that he played in that season. Deron played about 28 or 29 minutes per game that season. What might his PPG, APG and
RPG have been if we proportionally scale his minutes up to 35 or 36 minutes per game for that first season? Does this affect your answer to question 3?
5. Carmelo and Deron’s salaries are located near their name in each chart. Which player do you think is a better value when you consider their
production compared to their salary? Make sure to use math in your response and to justify your response.
