Weather, Lesson One – The Water Cycle Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes) Social Studies 4-1.1 Summarize the spread of Native American populations using the Landbridge Theory Lesson One – Land Bridge Theory – Students will read and highlight ideas and important thoughts about the land bridge theory. Lesson Two – Native Americans – Students will read and highlight ideas and important thoughts. Science 4-4.1 Summarize the processes of the water cycle (including evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff). Groups will color the stages of the water cycle. Thursday Spiral Review (10 minutes) Text Study (20 minutes) Independent/Collaborative Activity (30 minutes) Students answer three sci/ss questions a day from present and past units; test on Friday Science 4-4.2 Classify clouds according to their three basic types (cumulus, cirrus, and stratus) and summarize how clouds form. Lesson Two – Classifying Clouds Social Studies 4-1.2 Compare the everyday life, physical environment, and culture of the major Native American cultural groupings, including the Eastern Woodlands, the Plains, the Southwest, the Great Basin, and the Pacific Northwest.Together, the class will complete the chart. As the teacher discusses each physical environment, students will “turn and talk” about what to write in each column. Lesson Two – Native Americans Science 4-4.2 Classify clouds according to their three basic types (cumulus, cirrus, and stratus) and summarize how clouds form. Using cotton balls and construction paper, students will create a four-section guide for classifying clouds. Three of the sections will be cotton balls manipulated into the three types. In the fourth section, students write “How Clouds Form” in their own words.
