BANASTHALI UNIVERSITY
Rajasthan (304022), India
Banasthali University
(University for Women: University with a difference)
Banasthali Vidyapith is a unique institute in more ways than one. Located
amidst picturesque rural setting in Rajasthan, it offers an integrated
comprehensive system of education extending from the primary to the
doctoral level through its fully residential campus. The Vidyapith aims at the
synthesis of spiritual values and scientific achievements of the East and the
West. Its educational programme is based on the concept of “Panchmukhi
Shiksha” and aims at all round harmonious development of personality.
Emphasis on Indian culture and thought and simple living including khadi
wearing are hallmarks of life at Banasthali.
Of late, the Vidyapith has attained distinction for its numerous quality
initiatives in various fields ranging from traditional liberal arts, social
sciences and fine arts to cutting edge new emerging disciplines.
Apaji Institute of Mathematics and Applied Computer Technology
(AIM & ACT) was founded in 1999 with the objective of achieving
synergy between teaching and research in Computer Science,
Electronics, Mathematics, and Statistics. Physics, Bio-informatics
and Information Technology have been also added to this list later.
In this short span of about ten years, Apaji Institute with its worldclass infrastructure and education programmes has earned the
reputation of one of the best centre of teaching and research not
only in the state but also in India. The students get placement in all
leading companies and organizations. Many of them have gone
abroad for higher education and research.
One of the strong points of Apaji Institute is to infuse logical
abilities and abstract thinking in its students by integrating learning
of Mathematics in all its programmes. The ambitious programme of
M.Sc. (Mathematical Science) was designed with inputs from leading
experts from IIT’s, IISc and TIFR and offers several specializations
such as Theoretical Computer Science, Statistics and Operation
Research in addition to Pure and Applied Mathematics in the
Institute. Now M.Phil. programme in Mathematical Science has also
been started to provide the required research orientation to the
desirous students.
Most notably, the Department of Science & Technology, Government
of India has identified it for setting up a state-of-the art Center for
Mathematical Sciences (CMS). To motivate research, Department of
Science and Technology Govt. of India have declared Banasthali
University as the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) in
November 2007. The first year of the establishment of the Centre
witnessed significant increase in the academic activities of the CMS.
The Centre has conducted the following major events for
enhancements of R & D and making a recurrent research
environment:
i.
ii.
National workshop on ‘Bayesian
Applications’ (October 2008).
Techniques
and
its
Training Programme on Optimization Techniques (December
24-29, 2008)
iii.
iv.
v.
vi.
Pre Conference workshop on Discrete Mathematics (January
6-10, 2009)
Jubilee Conference on Discrete Mathematics (January 11-13,
2009)
Seminar on Time series Modelling (October 03-06, 2009)
National Workshop on Mathematical Modeling (December 1519, 2009)
National Workshop on Discrete Mathematics – 2010
A National workshop on Discrete Mathematics is being organized at
Banasthali University during May 01-05, 2010. The purpose of the
workshop is to prepare the participants for the research expositions
by the experts in the field during the conference so that they will be
able to appreciate, assimilate the proceedings of the conference and
interact with the experts in the field.
Discrete Mathematics is a dynamic field in theory, application and
even in practice. Researchers in discrete mathematics have
established important connections with mainstream areas of pure
and applied mathematics, and as a consequence, research
techniques and problems are drawn from a wide range of different
fields, including algebra, topology, geometry, probability, analysis,
and logic. Discrete Mathematics has now burgeoned into one of the
fastest growing branches of Mathematics.
In this workshop a series of pedagogical lectures will be given on
the following topics which include frontier areas in Discrete
Mathematics: Graph Colorings and its applications, Chemical Graph
Theory, Optimization using Discrete Graphical structures,
Probabilistic Methods in Graph Theory and Random Graph, Graph
algorithms, Design Theory. Each day of the workshop will have five
lectures followed by a discussion session.
Applications are invited from interested and highly motivated research students with at
least one-year research experience in Discrete Mathematics. Around 25 participants will
be selected and will be provided with travel support and local hospitality. Duly filled-in
applications in the proforma (link given in the bottom of this page) should be sent to:
SECRETARIAT, CENTRE FOR MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES, BANASTHALI
UNIVERSITY, P.O. BANASTHALI VIDYAPITH, 304022(Rajasthan) INDIA
e-mail: widmdm@gmail.com
The selected participants will be informed by mail/phone/fax. They will be
reimbursed III AC train/bus fare to and from Banasthali and will be provided free
lodging and boarding at Banasthali University.
IMPORTANT
Deadline for receiving the application for the workshop: 15 April 2010
Applicants selected for participation in workshop will be intimated as early as possible
after deadline.
There is no registeration fee
GENERAL INFORMATION
Banasthali University is situated in Banasthali Vidyapith, 72 kms(45 miles)
from Jaipur (Pink City), the state capital of Rajasthan, 7 kms off on JaipurKota National Highway (NH12). It takes about an hour to reach Banasthali
from Jaipur Airport (Sanganer) by road.
Jaipur is well connected by air to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata having daily
flights of almost all national airlines and is also very well connected to all the
other parts of India by rails. Direct trains are available between Jaipur and
Agra, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Banglore, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. (Details
