CALL FOR PROPOSALS FROM COLLEGES OF NORTH EASTERN REGION FOR
ESTABLISHMENT OF INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL BIOTECH HUBS
The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology invites proposals from
Colleges of the North Eastern Region of India offering undergraduate and/or postgraduate
courses in any branch of Biology/Life Science/Biotechnology/Environmental Science/Chemistry
/Physics/ Computer Science /Biomedical Sciences/ Agri/ Veterinary Sciences for considering
establishment of Biotech Hubs under the special programme for the North Eastern States. The
broad purpose of the programme is to promote education and research in Biotechnology and to
attract brilliant young students to build their career in the multidisciplinary subject areas.
Under this programme DBT proposes to provide the following facilities to each Biotech Hub:-






Biotechnology lab with basic set of equipments
Computers with Internet connectivity
Recurring budget for procurement of chemicals, glassware and for maintenance of
Internet connectivity
Support for Organizing Trainings/Workshops
Travel Support for Conference attending short term trainings within India
Student Fellowships etc.
The support under this programme will be provided initially for a period of 3 years.
Depending on the status and potential, the colleges will be identified for the establishment of
institutional level Biotech Hubs. Each biotech hub will be looked after by a Coordinator to be
nominated by the host institute and guided by a small committee constituted as per guidelines
framed by DBT. The host institution shall have to provide necessary space and administrative
support. Applications from the institutions those have already received either institutional
level or state level Biotech hubs will not be considered.
Interested colleges may submit two copies of their proposals in the prescribed format ,
(http://www.btisnet.gov.in/nerbthubs.doc) and duly endorsed and forward by the respective
Heads of the Institutions, should reach to Dr. T. Madhan Mohan, Adviser, Department of
Biotechnology, Block-2, CGO Complex, Lodi Road, New Delhi-110 003 latest by 25th
December, 2012. A soft copy of the proposal is also required to be sent to
nerbpmc@dbt.nic.in.
