SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C 14th February 2010
Dear Parishioners,
‘Happy are those who trust in the Lord! We place all our trust in the resurrection of
Christ. If our hope in Him had been for this life only we are the most unfortunate of all
people. Christ is risen from the dead and this is the source of our happiness. In Him we
put our trust and ask for nothing more.’(Pope John XXIII Missal). Introduction to 6th
Sunday in Ordinary Time.
This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent. Please note
that we have a 7.30am Mass in the Presbytery; a 10.00am Mass at the Methodist
Church and a 7.00pm Mass in the Parish hall. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and
abstaining from meat. The Blessing and imposition of ashes will take place at each
Mass. We will have Stations of the Cross on a Friday evening at 6.00pm. The Holy
Hour will take place between 5.00-6.00pm.Mass at 6.30pm (all of these will take place
in the Parish Hall). We are very grateful to Year 6 of St Augustine’s for illustrating the
‘Stations of the Cross’ to use for our Lenten devotions. Do please make sure you have
your Lenten ‘Walk With Me’ booklet and calendar for the children.
Next weekend we will be having a second collection for Survive-Miva, this is a
Liverpool based Catholic organisation that provides transport for the Missions. We
will welcome one of their speakers. Please pray for Daniel Herlihy who is to be
baptised into the family of the Church during the 11.00am Mass this Sunday morning.
The next two baptismal preparation evenings will take place on Wednesday 24th
February and Wednesday 3rd March at 8pm in the Presbytery. We will be holding an
enrolment Mass for those who wish to be confirmed this year. It will take place on
Sunday 28th February during the 9.00am Mass at St Peter’s School. Also we have
arranged a meeting for the parents of all those being confirmed. This will take place on
Monday 1st March at 7pm at St Augustine’s School, Whitefield Road.
Do please remember in your prayers the soul of Mr Chris Fuller who has died
tragically, that he may enter in to the fullness of life with Jesus in Heaven and please
pray for his wife, Annie and their two children Jonathan and Isobel, that they may be
greatly comforted by God’s love.

Blessed are you,
O Lord our God, the all-holy one,
who gives us life and all things.
PRAYER FOR ASH WEDNESDAY
As we go about our lives,
The press of our duties and activities
Often leads us
To forget your presence and your love.
We fall into sin and fail
To live out the responsibilities
That you have entrusted
To those who were baptized into your Son.
In this holy season,
Help us to turn
Our minds and hearts back to you.
Lead us into sincere repentance
And renew our lives with your grace.
Help us to remember that we are sinners,
But even more, help us
To remember your loving mercy.
As we live through this Ash Wednesday,
May the crosses of ashes
That mark our foreheads
Be a reminder to us and to those we meet
That we belong to your Son.
May our worship and prayer and penitence
This day be sustained
Throughout these 40 days of Lent.
Bring us refreshed and renewed
To the celebration
Of Christ’s resurrection at Easter.
We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ,
Who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.
