Expert CV Henrik Rosendahl Kristiansen Accompanying letter Key competencies General Promoting professional, reliable communication with clients using my authority and power of penetration. Specialist in problem solving and implementation of new technology or new ways of collaborating (building of consortia etc.) Specific Conducting holistic analysis of animal feed and human food combining most environmental and nutritional aspects in the report to clients. Support of marketing (animal feed or human food) with my comprehensive scientific knowledge and breadth of view of physiology and nutrition. Participate in scientific evaluations (Brussels, Norway, Canada), consortia building and fund raising (national, international). Motto: 1. Think positive even when things go wrong. 2. Communication is a prerequisite for development Motivation My motivation for applying is that I seek new international challenges in the food industry. The last twelve years I have strived to strengthen my professional skills in environmental and nutritional science, English, German and Spanish, entrepreneurship, networking, business and policy communications and correspondence with relevant organisations such as the European Food Safety Authority and The World Health Organisation. 1. Environmental and Nutritional science: Worked in well equipped laboratories at the Odense University, Max Planck Institute of Limnology in Pløn, Lund University, Aalborg University, Finnish Game and Fisheries Institute, Agricultural Research Institute of Iceland, Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and private laboratories in the contract research organisations Mobile Nutrients Ltd. (founder, owner) and Pipeline Biotech Ltd. Laboratory skills: Solid phase micro extraction Gas chromatography (CH4, O2, N2O, N2, CO2) Mass spectrometry (CH4, CH3OH) GC-MS (geosmin, methyl-isoborneol)) Dr. H. R. Kristiansen, Fjordparken, Kløvervej 15, 10 MF, DK-6000 Kolding, Denmark 15/02/2016 Expert CV Henrik Rosendahl Kristiansen HPLC (NO3, NO2, NH4) Spectrometry (NO3, NO2, NH4, Cr2O7) Radiography, mammography, DEXA Homogenisation, dilution and sub sampling Wet oxidation (Cr2O3, COD) Microscopy (zooplankton, invertebrates, fish scales) Moreover, I recently joined a course in immune histochemistry and in situ hybridisation (PCR). From 1988-1995 my focus was environmental science, but I changed focus to nutritional science from 1995-2002. In 2002-2007 I combined these two disciplines. My major accomplishments: European patent “a method of analysing consumption and digestibility in animals or humans”. A number of validated laboratory methods, data analysis and interpretation services. A good production of peer reviewed indexed scientific papers and book chapters of which many were translated and published in leading Danish magazines such as Water & Earth, The Fishermen’s Magazine and Food Process. Producer of high impact articles (based on electronic counting) in on-line week letters such as Meals and the Fish Magazine. Accepted communicator of food science issues in the leading Danish financial newspaper “Børsen” and other national and regional newspapers. 2. Language: The majority of my work has been written in English. Recently, I decided to improve my oral and written language skills. I took classes in the evening being confronted with the English and Spanish languages. My experience with German was put into practise, when I worked at the Max Planck Institute as an undergraduate student. I try to keep up with this moderate level. I gave a lesson as invited speaker in Berlin 2006 in German. 3. Entrepreneurship: I established my first company in 1995, while I was principal investigator in my PhD research. The purpose of Aqua Life was to provide research in Aquatic Environments and Fish and serve the customers I already had acquired in the period 1990-1994. In 1999, after my patent was approved by the European Patent Office, I raised funding to establish Mobile Nutrients Ltd. My major accomplishments were to establish two laboratories: 1) a radiographic unit specialised in pre-clinical trials with mice and rats, and 2) a feed and faeces unit specialised in gastro-intestinal research, especially marker techniques to quantify digestibility (absorption) of nutrients in animal trials with fish, rats, chicken and pigs. I served 20 clients until Dr. H. R. Kristiansen, Fjordparken, Kløvervej 15, 10 MF, DK-6000 Kolding, Denmark 15/02/2016 Expert CV Henrik Rosendahl Kristiansen the company was sold to one of the clients. I still have access to use the facility in my own research. I strengthened my leadership skills by joining the course “Leadership in Growth Business” managed by the Development Park in Aarhus. Our group acquired a number of useful tools to manage the growth, human resources and competency building in innovative companies. As managing director in Mobile Nutrients Ltd., I participated in board meetings, planned budgets and reported the financial results after meetings with accountants, lawyers and bank CEO’s, wrote strategy and business plans to attract external investors and - not to forget - arranged meetings with potential customers in Scandinavia and Europe. I produced a folder with advertisement materials, which was sent to the 200 most potential customers. It was a quality stamp that my company was based in science parks, first Agro Business Park Denmark and later Science Park Aarhus. 4. Networking: I have established a network with professionals from departments, companies, media and financial institutions in Denmark and EU. I represented Denmark in COST action 827 and participated in management meetings all over EU. Moreover, I have worked in Brussels and negotiated with scientists from 25 countries. My industrious and active participation in workshops and conferences have opened many doors in my professional life. I keep in touch with all these people and based on their positive attitude, I feel that my effort is successful. I believe that social competence, such as we learn in the Danish school system, is very important. I am curious and open minded to learn new ways of working. Therefore it is important for me that flexibility is rewarded in the environments, where I work. One more important principle is “lifelong learning”. Networking and social activities are elements in my life, where I learn by listening to other people or watching different ways to work. I hope that this is appreciated, wherever I work. 5. Business and policy communications: During the recent years I have helped clients encountering that their food products were contaminated with toxic compounds. I transformed the comprehensive knowledge into meaningful communications that they could use directly in their meetings with the food authorities. In one of the cases about dioxins (chlorinated organic compounds) it became evident that the measures taken by the parliament was contradictory to the other Scandinavian countries. Therefore my clients asked me to compile a working paper to the seventy people represented in the Committee of Food. In this particular case I considered carefully that the end users were politicians. In this way the impact of my work increases at the society level. 6. Correspondence with EFSA and WHO: There are two very good reasons to keep in touch with international organisations: 1) the globalisation and 2) the European Union. I communicate with WHO about matters relating to lifestyle related diseases such as obesity, coronary heart diseases and diabetes. Obesity is considered as an Dr. H. R. Kristiansen, Fjordparken, Kløvervej 15, 10 MF, DK-6000 Kolding, Denmark 15/02/2016 Expert CV Henrik Rosendahl Kristiansen epidemic disease, which WHO is very concerned about (besides bird flu etc.). From the view of a food company obesity is a window of opportunity to develop products tailored to this huge marked. If a company establishes partnerships with WHO or Heart Associations etc. the products receive a quality stamp and it can be anticipated that it will promote the sales. 7. In the last decade(s) Brussels has become the centre for legislation the European food industry must obey to. Therefore, I communicate with EFSA regarding safety limits of toxins, approval of new food ingredients, changes in their opinion to specific foods etc. EFSA is located in Parma, Italy, but their recommendations are discussed in the EU parliament. Therefore I consider it very important to be one step ahead and follow political decisions in Brussels closely. Recent working experience In 2004 I worked at the International Food Science Centre in Lystrup. My job was to support the marketing group with scientific knowledge, when we wrote advertisement materials to the sales people. The specific products I worked with are omega-3 enriched kitchen oils. It is well known that such oils are natural constituents in the Mediterranean food and there is a common agreement that the oils are healthy. My job was to select the evidence carefully and validate the data, because there is much contradictory information. In 2005 I worked in the independent research and consultancy organization DHI Water & Environment. The joint project I was working on received funding from the Danish state. My role was to explore a new technique “ultra-violet light and titanium-dioxide photo catalysis” and quantify the degradation of smelling substances (small organic alcohols). The samples were analyzed with solid phase micro extraction and quantity of the substances was analyzed by mass spectrometry and gas chromatography. The results are very promising and I see business opportunities on the market. Present time (2006-2007) I work with food innovation research and consultancy services in the aqua culture and fisheries industry. This work is confidential. I work as independent expert for the European Commission. I work with transformation of the dietary recommendations into simple consumer friendly “Eat guides”. We are now negotiating with different publishers in order to sell the concept, which can be extended to all kinds of foods (e.g. cheese, pork meat). Feel free to contact me for more information, clarifications etc. Henrik Rosendahl Kristiansen, Cand. Scient. , PhD European Doctorate Dr. H. R.
