We dismantle the umbrella from the framework. The frameworks can upcycle to
hanger also.

We just use the umbrella without framework and cut it into a rectangle. Fold it up
become a bag shape.

We sew it to upcycle become waterproof bag. Then use remaining umbrella
material to make the strap.

We add a button and rope so that the waterproof bag can roll up and tie.

Material used and Sources of material
We use a broken umbrella in our home and some sewing thread. Our product has use up
to 90 percent up cycle material. The material used and the way to do this waterproof bag
is simple so many people also can do it at home.

Replace the plastic bag
It can use to put the vegetable and the meat when we go market because it is waterproof
and the size is also quite big. It can help to reduce plastic bag usage in order to save our
environment. The recycle bag is convenient to bring and keep in our handbag or pocket as
it can roll up and become small size. So, we use as a shopping bag when we go shopping.
If we use it as shopping bag then we can prevent to use plastic bag.

Laundry Bag
When we go swimming or travel, for sure we will have some wet or dirty cloth and
normally we will put in the plastic laundry bag that provided. But, the laundry bag
provided is easily spoiled if we put too many cloths. To solve this problem, we can use
this waterproof bag to put those cloths. For the wet cloth, if we put in this waterproof bag
it can prevent leakage because it is waterproof and it also not easily spoil compare with
the plastic laundry bag.
Inspiration of Product
Upcycling is a process to change waste materials into new products to prevent waste
of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce
energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for
"conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to
plastic production.
The inspiration of our group members doing this product because we are facing the
problem of umbrella is easily broken, there are many broken umbrella in everywhere
beside you. With this situation, we had an idea of using the broken umbrella to upcycle to
a useful waterproof bag. It can promote environmental protection recycle.
Now a days, there are only a few of us have a habit of using recycle bags, we are
encourage to use recycle bag to reduce air pollution as the plastic bag is not easily
decompose. For example, there are many shopping center encourage people to use
recycle bag by charging RM0.20 per one plastic bag. We upcycle the broken umbrella
become a useful and convenient waterproof bag to attract their attention and encourage
them to use it thus reduce use of plastic bag.
Most of the recycle bags in the market now are big and not convenient, this is the
problem that many of us do not like to bring the recycle bags when we are outside. Our
waterproof bag is lighter and convenient compare to other product as our bags can be roll
up become small and the material is light thus it become easy to carry out or put into
handbag.
We throw our umbrella when it was damaged thus creates more rubbish and affect
the environment. Even though decomposition and remake it become another product, it
will also affect the environment and involve more cost by doing so. By upcycle the
umbrella become waterproof bag, the cost can be minimize and more environmental
friendly.
