CARE AND MAINTENANCE FOR
SYNTHETIC ATHLETIC SURFACING
INTRODUCTION
Urethane synthetic surfacing is a durable material, capable of
withstanding much use and abuse. Virtually, the entire spectrum of
athletic activities, including events such as dances, meetings, and
concerts, can be conducted on this type of surface. Spiked or cleated
shoes should be prohibited on smooth surfaces to avoid possible
physical damage.
Urethane synthetic surfacing is subject to wear if dirt and other foreign
materials, in combination with foot traffic, are not routinely cleaned.
SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Your DynaSport floor should be scrubbed. This work should be done
with an automatic scrubbing machine or a buffer and a wet/dry
vacuum.
The red scrubbing pads should be used for scrubbing on a routine
basis. Green pad can be used periodically as necessary. A neutral ph
cleaner (7-8.4 ph) is recommended as a scrubbing solution. To
remove black and colored marks from the floor, use mineral spirits or
Bon Aime cleaner (non-abrasive cleanser) with a scrubbing pad and
lightly remove by hand. Note: Outdoor basketball shoes may leave
permanent marks on the floor surface that cannot be removed. Nonmarking basketball shoes are recommended.
Dynamic Sports Construction, Inc. has provided a fluid-applied
coating with the coefficient of friction equal to that of a wood floor.
However, if street shoes are going to be used on a routine basis, aftermarket synthetic flooring sealers are available. Be sure such products
are made for synthetic sports surfaces and follow manufacturer's
instructions for such maintenance products. These protective coatings
should be applied and removed as a function of floor usage and
appearance desired.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Avoid the following:
1. Do not use commercially treated dust mops.
2. Do not use sandpaper, steel wool, abrasive powders, or soap
containing solvents.
3. Never use acid or caustic based cleaners such as ceramic tile
cleaners, bowl cleaners, etc.
4. Do not allow black rubber tires from automobiles and trucks to
set on the floor for prolonged periods of time without protection.
They will leave a permanent stain.
5. Do not use any ammonia-based cleaners or strippers at full
strength.
6. Indoor non-marking soles only. Outdoor basketball shoes may
leave permanent marks.
Unsightly damage can be caused by numbers 1 through 5 listed below.
Number 6 will not only cause unsightly damage but will also affect
play:
1. Battery acid from scrubbing machine.
2. Stains from equipment tires.
3. Ball point and felt tipped pen marks.
4. Cigarette burns.
5. Outdoor marking basketball shoes.
6. Scars and cuts made by loose shoe nails and malfunctioning
bleachers or chairs or tables without the proper protective pads
on their legs.
The use of walk off mats in doorways will aid in keeping the synthetic
floor clean.
