 One VHS of - and Three - Five 35 mm color slides of student artwork –
student's work, exhibits, class activities and/or performances.
Please note: videotapes should be no longer than 20 minutes in length. It
is preferred that you provide actual footage of students engaged in the arts.
For consideration on the national level, support materials should provide
examples of all four major artistic disciplines (dance, music, theatre, and
visual art).
Video Release Form (if applicable)
Letter from the Principal, which includes a statement regarding the school’s
academic ranking in comparison to other schools in the state. (required)
Principals should also indicate in their letter whether they are a member
of NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals) and/or
NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals) and/or their state
affiliate organizations for consideration for the Principal’s Arts Education
Leadership Award. (Membership not required for your school to receive the
award; however, your providing this information is greatly appreciated.)
A paragraph (150-300 words) which could be used for public distribution that
provides a summary description of the school’s art program.

*Note: This question is asked based on the possibility of inviting winning schools to showcase their students in
performance at the Kennedy Center. The performance is not designed as a national award ceremony. Only the
performing arts will be featured. Based upon the opportunities available for the year of the award, the winning schools
will be invited to submit a proposal to the Kennedy Center, including what they would like to present. All program content
and technical requirements must meet the guidelines provided by the Kennedy Center and are subject to the exclusive
approval of the Kennedy Center in accordance with specified deadlines. The Kennedy Center reserves the right to withdraw
the invitation to perform if the school’s proposal does not meet the intent and criteria of the performance opportunity.

Description of Outstanding Arts Program
Nomination Questions
The following questions will help entry reviewers determine whether the goals of the campaign
were incorporated into the student learning experience. If necessary please complete on
separate pages, not to exceed a total of six (6) pages..
1. Please provide a brief description of how arts education is an essential component in your
schools curriculum. Are the arts integrated in to several subject areas or taught as specific
subjects?
2. Explain how the program being nominated creates and uses imaginative learning approaches
and environments for teaching the arts and recognize that the arts are critical and essential to
education.
3. Please give specific examples of the opportunities provided for parental involvement in the
educational lives of their children through hands-on, creative arts-based activities.
4. How does this program provide students opportunities for learning about other cultures
through the arts?
5. How does this program link arts education to the community and provide community
connections that build value and respect for it by offering students diverse experiences beyond
the classroom?
6. Please provide whatever academic ranking(s) is/are available that serve as testimony to how
your students are achieving in comparison to other students in the district, state, and nation. The
comparison of your students to others in your state is of particular interest.
