Prices peaked at 192 or £1,171.50
147 A few less forward this week perhaps due to the Mid
Month dairy cattle sale closing holdings due to the six day
rule. Unfortunately no change in trade due to a drop in
numbers but a new buyer is in operation which could help
the situation. Maybe if there are less cows coming forward
for sale in all centres trade may increase. The main reason
for prices being deflated is the consumer demand
undergoing the usual drop in January with constrained
budgets following the Christmas extravagance. Hopefully
trends will match last year and recover to record highs seen
in June and July 2013. Best B&W Cows saw prices reach
116p or £922, Heifers topped at 155p or £937 and the best
Bulls made 134p or £1648. Keep the cattle coming. Please
do not hesitate to contact us 01829 262100 with you entries

IMPORTANT NOTICE
FARM ASSURANCE
Due to the Farm assurance body unable to give us a real time
database or actual up to date information on your assurance status
we rely on YOU the producers to give us the correct information.
Therefore if you present your cattle as farm assured when they are
not this is a misdescription and you are representing your cattle
fraudulently.
When the animal gets to the abattoir they have specific outlets for
these animals and often don’t for nonfarm assured stock so they
deduct massively. This is due to the time and loss of animal to the
batch that was bought for a specific job.
They cannot be returned from an abattoir therefore you are in their
hands. The deduction could be £150.
PLEASE GIVE US THE CORRECT INFORMATION

STORE CATTLE
Every Friday
(To commence after the sale of the beef approximately 12.30pm)
Prices Peaked at £1,270 or 235.0p
99 Still not an abundance of cattle coming
forward. Trade is very good for the quality, age
and type entered. The Beef trade could do with a
boost to encourage higher premiums for the
stronger sorts, but saying that top price today was
£1270 for two BB Steers from T W Goldstraw.
Younger sorts seem well sold 460kg/£995 for 3
Charolais Steers from Messrs Piggott. Even the
Friesians sold well for their size and quality 21mo
heifers to £665. Friesian Steers sold to 155p per
kilo or 510kg/£790 21mo, 142p 480/685kg, 22mo
325kg/£450. Also a better entry of Bulls this week
topping at 204p for a British Blue from R E
Hughes, Herefords reached 170p and Friesians to
130p.
More needed each week there are plenty of buyers
we just need to inform them of what’s coming to
encourage them. (Please let us know by Wednesday
or earlier of your consignment)

REPORT
MID MONTH SEES PRICES TO RISE TO £2650
FLYING TRADE ‐ 56 HEAD OVER £2000
The opening Mid Month Sale for 2014 witnessed a
flying trade for all classes in the milking sections of the
sale. A huge crowd was in attendance and the trade
was flying from start to finish.
MILKERS:
The quality presented for sale was exceptionally good
throughout with not many bottom enders forward
amongst the heifers. Cows were the opposite with the
majority being medium quality and not so many top of
the range individuals present. Despite the variations
trade was tremendous from start to finish with plenty
of bidding throughout which resulted once again in a
total clearance.
Although this was the smallest entry received for
sometime, the sale still provides the largest choice
anywhere in the country of fresh calved cattle and is
renowned for its quality. There was also a higher than
usual proportion of animals not forward for one reason
or another. Some 56 cattle sold for in excess of £2000
to a top of £2650 which included 22 over £2300.
The top seller was a stunning red and white heifer
consigned by David Bramall of Minshull Vernon,
Middlewich and bred in the Aintree Herd; the heifer
Aintree Soccer Trix Red 298th is a daughter of C
Haven Soccer P Red and out of a second generation
Excellent dam. She sold to J & SA Whitehurst of
Bramshall, Uttoxeter. Next in the price list was
Clayden Horatio Satin consigned by JH Wynn &
Partners of Whitchurch. This heifer was by Clayden
Horatio and out of a Shottle dam. She sold for £2550 to
David Guy of Middlewich.
Next at £2520 was the first of a good line of heifers
from Mark and Ann Bowden of Wigland, Malpas; their
home bred heifer, Wigland Loader Judy 2nd was sold
giving 35 kg and was the choice of Robert Ford of
Brindley, Nantwich. The Taylor brothers, Jack and
Barclay, of Myddle, Shrewsbury had a good day
selling to a top of £2480 for Bictown McCormick
Florence a heifer giving 33kg by McCormick and
purchased by JG Williams, Nantwich and also sold
another Unregistered heifer at £2450 to Robert Ford.
Four other heifers sold at £2450; the first of these was
a Woodmarsh Talisman daughter from Willis Dairy
Farmers of Cholmondeley selling to Anthony
Matthews, Whitchurch who also bought a Gillette
Final Cut heifer from David Monk of Ormskirk and
another from Neil Lewis of Farndon. The other was a
7
Karona Bonair heifer from David Bramall which sold
to Roger Brooks, Wettenhall.
Cows sold to £2350 for an outstanding second calf
daughter of Outside from Haydn James of
Northampton. She sold giving 44 kg to W & R & E
Pritchard of Anglesey.
There was a good show of coloured breed cattle and
they sold very well. The top seller was a super
Fleckvieh heifer from J & S Richardson of Ellesmere
which sold for £1990 to Johnathan Scott of Hanmer,
Whitchurch with same vendors selling a Jersey cross
calved heifer at £1520. Ayrshires topped at £1850 for a
fourth calf daughter of Lagace Modem from H Tinker
& Son of Rotherham with a fresh Ayrshire heifer by
Changue Tryst from A Coutts & Sons selling at £1640.
Dairy Shorthorns sold to £1860 for an unregistered
heifer from Howard Walmsley, Garstang and another
from John Dale of Brereton, Sandbach selling at
£1650. A purebred British Friesian heifer from Howard
Walmsley sold for £1700.
SERVED AND MAIDEN HEIFERS:
Served heifers were a decent trade for anything good
selling to a top of £1380 three times for Feb March
calvers, all unregistered from AJ Thompson & Sons,
Kent, Hollington Farms, Essex and B & C Lampard
Partnership, Nuneaton. The same comment applies for
Maiden Heifer. They sold to £1020 for a Go Farm
Artes daughter from RC Rout & Sons, Norfolk who
sold another by Wyman for £1000. Both were
yearlings.
HEIFER CALVES:
A small entry of heifer calves sold to £320 for a
daughter of O‐Man End Story from the Downing
Partnership, Kent with another from the same vendors
by Southland Delano making £300. John Gleave,
Middlewich sold a Palermo calf for £310.
STOCK BULLS:
A small entry of 6 Bulls were entered and all sold well.
The top seller was an unregistered January 2012
Simmental from Terry Goldstraw, Audlem which
made £2150.

Further information
Separate holding registers are needed for separate holding Numbers including tack sheep, and regularly filled
in and kept up to date.
Whenever sheep are moved an AML1 form must be filled in and sent off to the relevant local authorities.
Unless the animals have the ability to run back and forth through a gateway or moved regularly within a two
week time frame, then you must note the date this access starts and stops in the Holding book, THIS IS THE
ONLY CASE WHERE BY AN AML1 Form is NOT needed.
10
The following information is on temporary field heaps. Solid manure such as farmyard manure, can be stored
in temporary field heaps, but they cannot be located:
*Within 10 metres of a surface water or land drain.
*Within 50 metres of a spring, well or borehole
*On land likely to become waterlogged
*On land likely to flood
*In a single position for more than 12 successive months
*In the same place as an earlier heap constructed with in the last two years.
Field heaps can be made on a permeable base other than soil (for example, hardcore) but the conditions in
the bullet above still apply.
To be stored in a temporary field heap, manure must be solid enough to be stacked in a free-standing heap
which does not give rise to free drainage from within the stacked material.
Please ensure you move a TFH after 12 months and to be cleared from that footprint for 2 consecutive years.
This information is based on the guidelines set out by DEFRA and the Environment Agency.
