Form of teaching
This course presents an introduction into theoretical
and methodological foundations of linguistics. The
presentation of the terms and phenomena is
accompanied by examples and exercises relating to the
German language. Overview of the following linguistic
areas is presented: semiology, phonetics and
phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and
pragmatics. Further topics include: language and its
role in the society, communication, communicative
competency, language as a system of signs, structure
and content of language sign, denotative and
connotative meaning of language sign, language
change, typology of language, brief historical overview
of the German language development, dialects in
German language, grammar theories – normative,
descriptive, valency theory, generative theory, lexicon,
expansion of lexicon.
