PART 1 - GENERAL

SUBMITTALS
A.
For systems, equipment and components specified herein, submit product/material data; shop
drawings; operation and maintenance data; as-constructed data; installation, startup, and testing
manuals; operation and maintenance manuals; and as-constructed drawings.

Product Data: Include dimensions and performance.
2.
Include computer calculations for coil performance.
Use B only if Commissioning Section 019100 is included in the project manual.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
Tenants: Throughout Part 2, delete all instances of “or pre-bid approved equal” and replace with “no substitution,” unless
otherwise noted.
2.1
COOLING COILS, DIRECT EXPANSION
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Pace, Carrier, Trane, McQuay, Dunham-Bush, Colmac, Thermal
Corporation, York, Heatcraft, or pre-bid approved equal.
B.
Description:
1.
Coils of nonferrous extended surface construction with continuous 16-gauge galvanized
steel casing for installation in air supply unit.
2.
Primary surface of seamless copper tubing brazed into nonferrous headers.
3.
Fins shall be nonferrous, mechanically bonded to tubes, with fin spacing of 10 fins per
inch maximum.
4.
Coils tested at 300 psi hydrostatic pressure.
5.
Distributors: Pressure type, brass construction with copper distributing tubes.
6.
Liquid and suction connections on same side.
7.
0.008-inch minimum fin thickness; 0.017-inch minimum tube wall thickness.
8.
Capacity certified in accordance with ARI 410. Face velocity shall not exceed 500 fpm
at specified air flow.
9.
Match operating points with respective condensing unit.
2.2
COOLING COILS, CHILLED WATER
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Pace, Trane, McQuay, Carrier, Colmac, American Air Filter, Bohn,
or pre-bid approved equal.
B.
Description:
1.
Coils of nonferrous extended surface construction with continuous 16-gauge galvanized
steel casing for installation in air supply unit or ductwork.
2.
Primary surface of seamless copper tubing rolled into headers with copper bushings or
brazed into nonferrous headers.
3.
Fins shall be nonferrous, mechanically bonded to tubes, with fin spacing of 12 fins per
inch maximum.
4.
Coils shall be tested at 300 psi hydrostatic pressure, guaranteed for 300 psi working
pressure.
5.
Coils shall be arranged for serpentine flow in continuous circuits with counterflow
between air and water without turbulating means; provide air vents and drains at each
coil.
6.
Supply and return connections on same side, with supply on bottom, downstream of air
flow.
7.
0.008-inch minimum fin thickness; 0.024-inch minimum tube wall thickness; 0.035-inch
straight stock for U-turns.
8.
Capacity certified in accordance with ARI 410. Face velocity shall not exceed 500 fpm
at specified air flow.
9.
Provide valved vent and drain connects on all coil headers.

2.3
HEATING COILS
A.
Air Handlers: Same as specified for cooling coils, 8 fins per inch maximum and minimum of
2 rows. Face velocity shall not exceed 750 fpm.
B.
Terminal Reheating Coils: Same as specified for cooling coils, 8 fins per inch maximum. Face
velocity shall not exceed 750 fpm at specified air flow, maximum air pressure drop shall not
exceed 0.20 inches W.G. Coils supplied as integral part of terminal unit are acceptable.
2.4
UNIT HEATERS
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Trane Model P or S as scheduled, Modine, Stearling, McQuay, Ted
Reed, Reznor, Air Therm, or equal.
B.
Horizontal discharge with discharge louvers or vertical discharge with louver cone diffuser.
Include water coil, fan, motor, controls, line voltage thermostat, disconnect switch and baked
enamel finish.
2.5
CABINET UNIT HEATERS
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Trane, Carrier, McQuay, Ted Reed, Air Therm, or equal.
B.
Description: Provide cabinet unit heaters complete with heating elements, enclosures, fans,
motors, controls, and air filters.
C.
Cabinet: Enclosure shall have 16-gauge front panels with 18-gauge end and top panels,
insulated with 1-inch fiberglass, vertical with integral stamped inlet and outlet grilles,
tamper-proof access doors, removable front panel. Unit shall be wall hung. Enclosure shall
have baked enamel finish; color as selected by the Port. Units shall be semi-recessed with four
side overlap, 4-inch recess.
D.
Fans and Motor: Steel construction designed for minimum noise levels, direct drive type,
multispeed permanent split capacitor motor or belt drive unit, fan controls including line voltage
thermostat, motor starter with thermal overload and disconnect.
E.
Filters: Throwaway type, 1-inch-thick fiberglass.
F.
Water Coils: 3/4-inch OD seamless copper tubes, aluminum fins and end supports. Provide
shutoff valves on water lines, and unions for a complete system. Coil and heater construction
shall be for 250 psi working pressure.
2.6
FINNED TUBE RADIATION
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Trane, Vulcan, Standard, Sterling, Dunham-Bush, or equal.
B.
Element: The element shall be 1 1/4-inch copper pipe with 4 1/4-inch by 4 1/4-inch
mechanically bonded aluminum fins.

C.
Hangers: Complete hanger assemblies including wall mounting channels, pipe brackets, and
slide cradles with nylon or non-ferrous rubbing surface.
D.
Covers: Enclosure by others. Provide louvered grille on top. Grille shall be continuous along
entire length of cover. Provide top mounting clip, wall strip, and other appurtenances for a
complete continuous assembly. Provide access to valves.
2.7
STEAM DOOR HEATER
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: Wing, King, or equal.
B.
Description: Steam door heater complete with centrifugal fans, steam heating coils, discharge
nozzle, and enclosure cabinet.
C.
Cabinet: Heavy-gauge steel panels, access doors, adjustable air discharge designed specifically
for door heating, suitable for wall mounting above door, baked enamel finish.
D.
Fans and Motor: Steel construction, direct drive, DWDI forward curved centrifugal fan wheels.
E.
Steam Coil: Aluminum fins mechanically bonded to 5/8-inch seamless copper tubing, tested to
150 psi SWP, brazed to Schedule 40 headers, with inlet birdscreen.
F.
Electrical: Provide magnetic contactors, and arrange unit for single point electrical connections.
2.8
ELECTRIC WALL HEATER
A.
Acceptable Manufacturers: QMark, Market, Cadet, or equal.
B.
Description: Heavy duty, wall-mounted forced air unit heater, complete with steel enclosure for
surface mounting, fan and motor, steel sheathed heating elements with manual reset thermal
overloads, capacity as indicated on drawings. Unit shall be UL listed and wired in accordance
with NEC.
C.
Thermostat: Unit-mounted, built-in, adjustable.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
INSTALLATION

Finned Tube Radiation: Suspend from structure same as heating water piping for exposed fin
tube for fin tube in cabinet mount on floor using floor supports.

Damaged Coils: Make every effort to prevent damage to both built-up coils and coils of
packaged equipment. Comb damaged coil fins to be straight.
3.2
ELECTRICAL WALL HEATERS
A.
Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Comply with NEC and UL listings.
B.
Install heaters in place with box trim flush with finished wall.
Choose 3.3 or 3.4. Use 3.3 if Commissioning Section 019100 is included in the project manual; otherwise use 3.4.
