RSES Sponsor’s Statement
ICE 3923
The Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES) require that applicants must be sponsored by a
current Registrant.
Sponsors must be at a grade higher than or equal to the applicant and will have undertaken the required
training. Should confirmation be needed of the sponsor’s grade of registration or details of training
opportunities sponsors should contact the Registers Coordinator.
Sponsors must be aware of the generic and specialist competences of the different grades of Registrants,
and must be convinced through direct experience that the applicant is a fit and proper person to be elected to
the Register. Full details can be found in ICE 3009(2).
Sponsors are required to act as mentors to applicants. Sponsors should understand their responsibility in
advising applicants whether to present themselves for the Register category indicated at the head of this form.
Sponsors must have scrutinized and approved the applicant’s submission documents, including the Experience
and Project Reports, and to have provided feedback to the applicant before their application is submitted.
Sponsor should also assist with preparing the applicant for interview and the candidate’s presentation (if
applicable). Your feedback is crucial to maintaining the standards for admission to the Register.
Sponsor’s Statements are a fundamental element in the review of an applicant's application for membership
of the Register. Therefore, when asked to be a Sponsor, please take the responsibility seriously, understand
what the required competences are and provide useful, in-depth comments about the applicant. For a
completed Sponsor’s Questionnaire to provide any real added value to an applicant’s application a one-line
statement noting that the candidate is “technically competent” is not sufficient as this is of little use to the
Reviewers.
The over-riding duty of all Sponsors is to declare on the sponsors’ form that:
“The applicant is a fit and proper person for admission to the Register of Security Engineers and
Specialists”.
This is not a just personal opinion but an informed statement measured against the relevant competences
set out in the RSES guidance documents.
