FNT was established in the early seventies to encourage quality standards in an increasing number of Irish language pre-school services. The area development officer organises in-service training for Naíonra staff during each term, initial training for new staff is also organised each year through Irish in Dublin or/and the provinces. FNT co-operates with accredited training organisations to provide FETAC levels 5 and 6 (CDBO) and other accredited training as necessary. FNT also operates a quality assurance programme (scéim ardchaighdeán) on an ongoing basis, in Irish medium services.
