COMMENTARY
Shakespeare quickly establishes the characters
of Benedick and Beatrice as witty and mature.
Their relation begins with antagonism. He also
sets up an initial confrontation between them
that will be resolved in the course of the play.
He also establishes that this is going to be such
fun! Nothing is more fun than clever repartee.
And Shakespeare is very good at it!
