Don’t Miss ‘The Cutting Edge Sale’ Aboard Showboat
to Raise Funds for Hereford Research
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A variety of unique items and opportunities will be up for bid Sept. 5
during “The Cutting Edge Sale” aboard the Showboat Branson Belle. Hereford enthusiasts will be
gathering for an evening aboard the boat on Table Rock Lake after wrapping up the Hereford
Genetic Summit in nearby Springfield, Mo.
Thirteen lots will be auctioned live, starting at 7 p.m., with all proceeds to benefit the
Hereford Research Foundation (HRF). For more information about the auction as well as the

“Thanks to the supporters of the Hereford Research Foundation we are able to continue to
invest in industry leading research,” says Jack Ward, American Hereford Association (AHA)
chief operating officer and director of breed improvement.
The 13 lots include:
Lot 1 – One-of-a-kind bronze sculpture of a bull or cow, buyer’s choice, with brand
included on base and made by world-renowned artist John David Rule, Minco, Okla.
Lot 2 – Bruce Huxol illustration titled “Traditions.”
This drawing will capture the evolution and development of the Hereford breed over generations.
Lot 3 – South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Trip, donated by Rausch Herefords, Hoven, S.D.
The Rausch family will provide the property for three days and five hunters for the 2014 season.
This will be a great opportunity to enjoy some of the best pheasant hunting in North America and
also to visit one of the breed’s top cow herds.
Lot 4 – Duck/Goose Hunt, donated by Shaw Cattle Co., Greg, Cleo, Sam and Tucker Shaw
and family, Caldwell, Idaho, and Hevi Hitters Waterfowl Club, Caldwell, Idaho.
Shaw Cattle Co. and Hevi Hitters Waterfowl Club donated three days of a guided duck and goose
hunt for two between Nov. 23 and Dec. 23, 2014. The buyer may upgrade to four hunters for two
times the money. Included in this package will be two nights’ lodging at the Best Western in
Caldwell, Idaho; a Tri-Tip dinner at Shaw Cattle Co.; and some of the best duck and goose
hunting to be found anywhere in the world. In addition, you will be able to tour the Shaw Cattle
Co. cow herd, which is now home to the famous Turner Bros. cow herd.
Lot 5 – Three embryos Z311 (43387256) X KCF Miss 732T Z109 ET (43282713), donated by
Knoll Crest Farms, James Bennett and family, Red House, Va.
These three embryos will be an opportunity to purchase some of the most proven genetics the
Hereford breed has to offer. The sire of these embryos is the bull that Knoll Crest decided to
retain from the fall 2012 calf crop. He is a product of the Knoll Crest embryo transfer (ET)
program and combines a GE-EPD (genomic-enhanced expected progeny difference) tabulation
that puts his CHB (Certified Hereford Beef), BMI (baldie maternal index) and BII (Brahman
influence index) $ indexes in the top 1% of the breed while his CEZ (calving ease index) $ is in
the top 10%. In addition, Z311 scanned an impressive 159% for IMF (intramuscular fat) and he
has been tested homozygous polled. The dam of these embryos is sired by one of the most
proven, well-balanced L1 bulls — 732T — from the Cooper performance program. He is a big
spread bull, and his first 51 daughters have 97 calves reported with a nursing ratio of more than
103. The next dam combines two of the best the breed has seen for years, Proficient and M326.

Lot 6 – Four embryos Z311 (43387256) X KCF Miss Revolution Y91 (43182278), donated by
Knoll Crest Farms, James Bennett and family, Red House, Va.
If you want to set your program apart from others in a hurry, take a look at this embryo mating.
The sire of these embryos is the bull that Knoll Crest decided to retain from the fall 2012 calf
crop. He is a product of the Knoll Crest ET program and combines a GE-EPD tabulation that puts
his CHB, BMI and BII $ indexes in the top 1 % of the breed while his CEZ $ is in the top 10%.
The dam of this mating reflects the program at Knoll Crest. The Revolution, M326, P606 mating
has generated as many good cattle at Red House in recent history as any, and this cow is no
exception. Y91 writes a performance pedigree as good as any with an impressive WW (weaning
weight) ratio 104, YW (yearling weight) 109, REA (ribeye area) 106 and IMF 158. Her first two
calves had a birth weight (BW) ratio of 98, and she posts ratios of one for WW 112, YW 106 and
REA 103. Take a look here; this mating is priceless.
Lot 7 – Four IVF embryos SHF All Star 42X A191 (43379326) X HVH Oksana 4L 33N
(42353096), donated by Loewen Herefords, Waukomis, Okla., and C&L Herefords, Ixonia,
Wis.
Here is an opportunity to purchase four IVF (in vitro fertilization) embryos from one of the most
exciting flushes done this spring. The dam has produced sons and daughters working in ranches
across the U.S. and Canada including NJW, Tegtmeier, Double Seven, Hoffman, Churchill,
Delaney, Larson and McCoy; and Select Sires offers one of her most famous sons, Redeem, in its
lineup. She has 36 progeny scanned with a REA ratio of 103 and an IMF ratio of 102. The sire of
these embryos is the exciting young bull from the Sandhill’s program, SHF All Star 42X A191.
His sire, K&B Sentinel, was a top seller in the K&B dispersal to ABS, Sandhill and Loewen, and
his popularity is because of his balanced tabulation and his being a trait leader for marbling. Take

Lot 8 – Four embryos HH Advance 2037Z ET X HH Miss Advance 7003T, donated by
Holden Herefords, Valier, Mont.
Powerful genetics combining the 7003T donor female that topped Holden’s 2013 female sale at
$70,000 and the high-selling bull from Holden's 2013 production sale. 7003T is a daughter of the
$175,000 5139R cow and has produced three herd sires used by Holdens. 2037Z is producing
progeny with extra bone, performance, style and eye appeal. This mating should produce
powerhouse bulls and females.
Lot 9 – Four frozen embryos GB L1 Domino 177R X CL 1 Dominette 440P 1ET, donated
by Cooper Hereford Ranch, Willow Creek, Mont.
An outstanding foundation cow out of the Cooper program mated to an upcoming star in the
Hereford breed. 440P is a role model 9126J daughter who ranks in the top 1% of the breed for
milk and M&G (maternal milk and growth) and the top 8% for marbling. Recognized as one of
the top cows in the Hereford breed, she has produced a number of outstanding herd bulls and
donor females in the Cooper herd. 177R is an outstanding Pedretti-bred bull who ranks in the top
8% or better for CED (calving-ease direct), WW, YW, M&G and CHB$ Index. This mating is an
exciting and unique package that combines maternal strength with outstanding performance and
great carcass.
Lot 10 — Choice of flush MCR JF Ms 408 Yankee 015 (43137964) or MCR 4R M326
Dominet 2134 ET (P43370358), donated by Mill Creek Ranch, Alma, Kan.
Offering choice of a flush — guarantee of four eggs. 015 is due to calve in spring 2015 with
flush available in late spring, and 2134 is due to calve in fall 2014 with flush available late fall.

The Hereford Research Foundation was established in 2009 as a division of the Hereford
Youth Foundation of America, a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization to support breed
improvement projects outside the scope of the AHA budget.
The fund has already supported heterosis research projects like the Harris Ranch study
and has helped set the groundwork for a new GrowSafe system built at Olsen Ranch, Harrisburg,
Neb.
